iCloud account with an old O2 email address

As the title suggests I have an O2 email address associated with my iCloud account and apple ID.
As O2 email has now ceased to be, I have swapped to other providers. However, my apple ID is still 'me at O2'. Is there a way of changing this? I don't really want to start over as I'll lose (I assume) my purchases if I do?
Ideally I'd like simply to have a new email address with apple and leave everything else alone.
Can this be done?
