Tablets with Replaceable Batteries
henrywilliams58

Having just bought a Tablet (now nicked by my wife) I discovered that the battery is not replaceable.

I have heard that there are no tablets with replaceable batteries.

Anyone know of a tablet with a replaceable battery? It would be great to carry a spare as I do for my netbook, notebook and 5.5" phone.

your best bet is to buy an external battery booster, you can get them on eBay or Amazon, Tesco also sell them for around £60 for one that will power a tablet, less for one that will power a mobile.

I have one for my phone just in case.

if you buy a tablet with a 10+ battery life I cant see many occasions where you would need a spare battery and the inconvience of making sure it was charged and carried safely would be of much benefit?

Thanks.

That is a whopping £86.44 for a new battery.

They have built-in failure to generate costs and profits to them.

The much vaunted Hudl costs £119. What is the cost of a replacement battery?

I have two issues:

1. Built-in obsolescence as the battery will fail and then tied to the manufacturer to supply and fit a replacement.

2. Recharge / change during the day or two of a long flight. With a notebook / netbook or most phones I can replace the battery in a minute myself and carry a spare.

Do not modern planes/trains/coaches have recharge points by every seat?

That isn't a replaceable battery in the practical sense; ie. you aren't likely to be doing this yourself.

Apple say that after 1000 charges the battery will still work at 80% capacity. So charged every other day the battery will still charge to 80% capacity after 6 years.

How often do you take flights in excess of 10 hours? could you not manage if the tablet failed after 10 hours to save the inconvenience of having to carry spare power?

I've not tested it but you should get 10 hours of movies on an Ipad air or the new mini but the question is do you really want to watch 10 hours of movies on one flight?

Most tablets will manage that! The quoted figures are for them active. On standby with black screen and no CPU activity they will last much longer.
