Philips DVDR5500/05
Just looking at an old one of these for a mate, it works, but the country settings seem messed up - there is no UK in the initial settings - just Europian countries bar the UK, it means the channels are stored with the wrong numbers EG Challenge is 44 rather than 46 & the EPG is not working, otherwise it recordes & plays OK
Anyone know the answer? Google does not

Anyone know the answer? Google does not ![]() If the recorder still will not operate, then reset it to the default factory settings : 1) Disconnect the recorder from the power outlet. 2) Press and hold down OPEN/CLOSE button on the front of the recorder while reconnecting to the power outlet. 3) Release OPEN/CLOSE button when “INIT” appears on the display. 4) Wait until the recorder’s demo start scrolling on the display, press STANDBY-ON again to turn on the recorder. All the information stored in the memory (programmes, time) will be cleared. The initial installation menu will be displayed on the TV. |

Thanks for your swift answer Fred, yes I tried all that - it still only shows in the intial country menus Poland - finland etc, not the UK - all the markings on the digibox are in English.
It tunes Freeview stations OK, but they are numbered wrongly & the EPG is not working!Help

I wonder if there is some sort of internal dip-switch or jumper to tell the machine where it is?
I have also tried a forced firmwear install, but the problem remains. |

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but have you scrolled to the very top & bottom of the Country list?
You can only update the firmware of the box over the air, if the updates are actually being transmitted at the time. The box can be updated by DVD or USB by downloading the firmware from the Philips website:- http://www.p4c.philips.com/cgi-bin/c...scy=GB&slg=ENG |

I take it that the installed firmware is the same as on the Philips website (Build 112).

& as continental Freeview is a bit different to ours, both the channel numbers & the video plus/guide do not work properly - EG BBC news is on C65 for example. But thanks for thinking about it. |
