Any standard media players for smart phones?
Can anyone tell me if there are any standard audio players for smart phone? The reason I ask is because every website I go on which offers streaming TV or radio will not work unless I install their app or sometimes they do not appear to offer one.
Surely there is a standard type thing which can handle more than just their own? You can get it for PC so why not smartphone? Sorry if this has already been answered but I can not find any information on this elsewhere. |

TuneIn is a very popular app for radio streaming.

Android smartphones have the standard media player built in to the OS.
Where the default one isn't included it's usually because the manufacturer has replaced it with their own. |

I mean if you go onto bbc.co.uk for example, my Sony Xperia does not want to play the content on it.
escradio.com is a good example as you can listen to this via four separate ways and none of them work, unless you have the app installed. The point I'm making is can you go on any site where there is media and just get it streamed, like the website is supposed to let you? |

The PC versions probably use Flash, which Android and iOS don't support. If a site has mobile users in mind it will take you to a mobile version of the streaming content, or as you say ask you to install an app to play the media.
If you want the PC experience, perhaps install Firefox on your Android phone/tablet as well as the last Android version of Flash and try streaming media that way. It isn't as elegant as mobile sites and apps though. |

I use realplayer for android, it gives you the option to download the content or use realplayer to stream the content you're wishing to play.

I've found it to be the best browser for me with a lot of extras like a toggle switch to switch between it always displaying desktop or mobile sites and also a good cut and paste screen for web sites were you can even select a certain area of a Web page or even the whole page (even stuff that's off the screen). |
