I am not sure which mobile network would be good for me. I wouldn't need lots of minutes, at least 500 texts and between 500MB and 1GB of data.

I would like a network to have good/excellent customer service (if possible), 3G or 4G tariffs don't mind as phone is 4G ready.

o2
Vodafone
Three

Or a virtual network such as Tesco Mobile.

I would like fairly cheap calls.
Do any of the networks have free voicemail access?

Does o2 just slow your internet speed down, if you go over your data allowance on a pay-monthly contract, or do they charge you more.

Does any other network offer capped contracts, other than Tesco Mobile?

Thanks in advance.

O2 just slow you down on 3G contracts but they slow you down so much you will wish you'd paid more.

First things first.

Do you want contract or PAYG.

TBF i cant fault three one bit the one plan is excellent value

if you already have the phone then the one plan costs £15 a month on a 12 month sim only or £18 on a 30 day sim only

2000 any network 5000 three to three mins 5000 texts and truly unlimited data

voice mail is also free and they allow you to put a spending cap on mine is set to £5 just encase i want to send the of MMS though in this day and age with email facebook and things like whats app i have not sent an MMS in over 3 year

also you will get 4G at no extra cost once it launches though three 3G is pretty dam good anyway speedtest here

Well O2 and Vodafone are quite expensive networks if it's cheapness your looking for then out of they options I'd say your best bet if you live in a city is Tesco Mobile, their one of the cheapest, their customer service is fairly decent and they operate on the O2 network so you will get a decent indoor signal, however if you don't live in a city then you should check your coverage as O2's 3G coverage outside of city's isn't exactly the best. http://shop.tescomobile.com/4g#check-fourg-coverage
So if where you live doesn't have 3G on the O2 network then Three would probably be the best for you as they cover more of the UK in 3G although I've heard by a lot of people that Three's customer service is awful.

EDIT: On Tesco you can get a 1 month contract £10 a month which includes 500 Minutes, 5000 Texts and 1GB of Data

Do Three apply this cap as standard for customers or is this something you'd need to get in touch with CS for?

It depends how you order if you do it via the website then you have to ring this is easy to do and takes about 5 mins to become active. If you order over the phone or in store they can apply it there and then

its not applied as standard, you have to call up, I set mine to £0 soi can only ever use my allowance every month. Its not something you can keep changing, it can only be done once.

I'm with vodafone and happy enough. I have always experienced good service from them in recent years.

You may want to try 1 month or PAYG contracts on the networks you mention to check you're happy before any longer commitment

My own experience with vodafone around hampshire, over to bristol, IOW etc has been pretty poor. Slow, unreliable data, dropped calls too often. three has been great apart from a few gaps. So location, location, location......... but overall the 3 oneplan worked for me.

If you are worried about overspending Virgin do a SIM only called VIP for £15 per month. You get unlimited calls, text and data (but not 4G enabled yet)
