iPad 2 charging cable extension
bluewomble88

Please help.

The charging lead for my ipad is so short that I can't really use it whilst it's plugged in. I've bought 2 separate usb extension leads but both of them charge at an ultra low speed because the voltage drop is too high.
I'm looking for a 3m usb lead extension that will still allow the ipad to be charged at the usual rate. I can't find one. Can anyone please direct me to a suitable option?

Many thanks.

Amazon has lots of long USB leads with the 30-pin Apple connector

Thanks but have you seen the reviews?

How about a 240v extension lead and plug your charger into that

My point is there are lots of long leads for iPads on Amazon and eBay. You said you 'couldn't find one'.

Apple actually make a proper charger that has both a long mains lead and a longish ipad connector lead. I own one and it works great.

Where can I get one?

A hardware problem. The device is too finicky on voltages/contact.
Works.... Then doesn't

They are the most useful reviews. Less than 10% get 3 to 5 stars. The vast majority are 1 star.

Quite obviously, they were forked lightening cables.

Wilko will sell you a cheap mains extension cable.

Note the picture shows a US cable the UK one has a normal lead and plug, then you plug in your USB cable, total length is probably about 10 feet

Look at the price.

Seriously, does anyone know of a usb extension lead that will handle the higher voltage?

Try a belkin lead.

I have one plugged into an official iPad charger and it charges my iPad2 (and 4s) fine.

Going by their web site it I think I have an older lead (the orange and grey version, showing the close up of the ends of the wire).

Thinking about it, its not voltage drop its because the 2 inner pins in the cable are not joined.

The inside 2 of the 4 USB pins are for data. If they are joined then the device thinks its a mains supply and thus draws more than 500mah.

I'm not sure if any chargers are 'intelligent. Do most just have the 2 outside pins?
