Aktivait

My eldest boxer is almost 11 years old and, as with humans, age is starting to take it's toll. Research has proven this can help counteract the free radicals in older dogs. Has anyone tried this and seen any positive effects?

Not used this but if it is doggy dementia Vivitonin is an alternative. You need to compare the costs of the two.
You can get Akitivait and Vivitonin online. Have seen some good reports on Amazon and elsewhere about Aktivait which you can get without prescription (you need one for Vivitonin).
My dog was on Vivitonin for respiratory issues but we discontinued as she is already lively and it made her hyper!

We did try it with Molliepops and also the late Katie neither did very well on it, didn't make them worse but no discernable improvement either. Had same experience with vivitonin with the late Rosie.

But I wouldn't hesitate to try them if I had another elderly dog they do work for some we were just unlucky IMO.

I don't like the sound of the vivitonin, but I think I'll ask my vet about the aktivait and, as long as there are no contraindications with his other medication, it's worth giving a go. You will do anything to make your dog's life as enjoyable as possible, whatever the cost. If it works, it's well worth it; if not, nothing lost. The research done on it seems to make sense.

Our vet suggested trying Aktivait first and it helped our lurcher for a while then he needed something a bit stronger so went onto vivitonin but it made him a bit nasty with our other dogs. I've heard other people say that. I'd definitely try Aktivait first, need to give it a couple of weeks to see if it works. Good luck!

Oh, you'll almost certainly find it cheaper online than from the vet and you don't need a prescription but you do need one for Vivitonin.

Our now nearly 14 year old bull terrier was diagnosed as having dementia a couple of years back, and Activait did improve her for a while - but then after a few months, it seemed to make no difference, so she came off it. She has not declined hugely since coming off it. I'd recommend you give it a try though as there's nothing to lose.
