3g updated from 3.1.3 to 4.2 now stuck on itunes and usb
I posted earlier a question on cheapest payg so that I could test a secondhand iphone was working before buying £10 voucher.
Since then I borrowed a sim with credit from a friend and am pleased to say the phone worked fine. 3 days later I got a message from iTunes about a new version 4.2 was available and do I want to upgrade, I did what I thought was right and said yes. The process started but when it was almost finished it stopped and a message came up that said it was unable to complete installation due to error 1015.. I looked on the net for advise and downloaded the previous version 3.1.3 and tried restore,,, same thing again almost finished and then stopped same message all I get is the iTunes logo and usb on the screen I cant get anything else....so I have gone from a phone that was working to this,,I feel such an idiot, I should have left well alone. desperate for some help PLEASE |

It sounds like it may have had unofficial software on it previously.
Try a DFU mode restore: http://thebigboss.org/guides-iphone-ipod-ipad/dfu-mode |

Error 1015 usually means the older software was jailbroken. On apple devices you can only install the latest software, as iTunes does a check for a validation certificate and Apple cancel the old ones when they release new.
