Recommendations for boots for muddy dog walks
secretsock

Hi.... my old £5 Primark wellies have finally got a hole in them. I got some Christmas money and want to spend it all on a really good pair of boots to wear every day when I take my gorgeous Rottweiler to the forest, which is extremely muddy and wet.

The requirements are:

a) 100% waterproof
b) good grip in deep mud
c) can tuck trousers in the tops
d) knee high
e) budget £70

I don't care what they look like (ie nothing trendy) and if they're lined, so much the better, but I have some thick thermal socks so that doesn't matter so much.

Any recommendations? Oh, and I like a bargain so if it's something in a sale, I'll be especially happy.

Thanks

IMO you can't really go wrong with hunters wellies. Plain old green ones did me well for nearly 25 years before they developed a problem and I had to replace them, I am at the moment regretting not investing in another pair and having bought cheaper ones.

As Molliepops says, you can't go wrong with a good pair of wellIies. Great grip, completely waterproof and good for stopping those thorns and brambles from scratching your legs or ripping your trousers. A good pair of walking socks with them makes all the difference to how warm and comfortable they are as well.

Or as a second option, mucker boots, which are what equine people wear, come in at a very, very close second:

Their like wellies, but softer and warmer whilst the shoe bit is still waterproof.

Look on eBay and google for both, as prices vary

I can't wear wellies and use solid and pretty much waterproof walking boots .OK there are no mountains around our way but I don't feel daft as they seem to be choice of many . Hotter do Gortex boots and shoes but yoiu can get decent cheaper versions in sports and mountain outlets.

Oops. Sorry of didn't see the £70!

*must read threads properly*** (I don't pay for mine either, work supply them!)

Hiking boots might be another option, but in super muddy areas they won't protect you 100% from the wet and they need maintainsing.

When my dad was in the UK, working with horses in all weathers, he swore by Aigles. Not cheap but some within your price range here - http://www.aigleboots.co.uk/boots/boots-for-women

Thanks for all the suggestions. Much appreciated. I've had a splurge and ordered a pair of Aigles. Can't wait for them to arrive now!

I had a problem with Hunters. Mine were 'Royal Hunters' with studs which were absolutely lethal on a footpath I use with slippery damp stones.
I now have a pair of green Dunlop wellies and they have outlasted all my other boots.

Mine didn't have studs so perhaps that was a flaw in design.

These are great. On my 3rd winter with them. And half price at the moment.

wellies and similar are very bad for your feet, i`d get yard boots or good hikers and a pair of gaiters. something you can lace or buckle on your foot end, it`s important not to slop your feet, especially if you walk miles.
