I have just bought a panasonic bwt735eb blu ray recorder and the manual is as clear as mud. Basically I cannot use the high speed copy from HDD to dvd no matter what I try. Can anyone give me straight forward instructions to be able to copy from HDD to dvd and hopefully blu ray when the discs arrive. If you cannot use high speed copy from HDD to disc it's a pointless machine. It was bought purely to archive the World Cup in the summer and no way could I record onto blu ray all those games in real time. Any help would be most appreciated.

Are you selecting the correct mode for copy transfer? It looks like its only available
when selecting HG, HX, HE and HL modes.

High Speed archiving from HDD to Disc Using H.264 conversion recording and changing to HG, HX, HE, and HL mode allows ultra-fast copying of data on your HDD A 1 hour of TV content in HD can be archived onto Blu Ray disc in 1 m 24

Hi what do you mean by H.264? I have not tried blu rays yet but it states in the manual dvd's can be transferred at high speed but I have tried everything. Do you need to convert before transfering to disc as it states discs wont play on other players otherwise. I am getting ahead of myself here as I can't even transfer anything on high speed. Am I missing anything here?

The manual is complicated but clear and you need to be aware of the various restrictions.
1. DVDs are not listed for copying HD recordings due to limited space.
2. When you make a TV recording you need to preset the recording mode (ie amount of compression).
3. If you want to do a high speed file transfer you have to retain the original recording mode (if you choose settings involving a file conversion the transfer will be at normal speed).

With such sophisticated products as this manufacturers should supply 2 manuals (1) fully detailed for the technical & (2) basic operation for the new user .

Never going to happen except perhaps on line only LOL

I have one of these and I agree that it is a bit complicated which is probably why they haven't taken off in a big way.

Unfortunately I haven't actually archived anything to disk since the Olympics but if my memory serves me correctly what I did is record everything to the hard drive in DR mode which I believe is the highest quality. If I then wanted to archive a program to blu-ray I would first use the copy facility which allows you to specify the quality and which creates a copy of the program on the hard disk. This copy Is created in real time and can be started immediately or you can choose for it to be done during the night.

Once the copy has been created it can then be archived to Bluray in fast mode.

There re other ways of doing it but I preferred this method.

It does sound very convoluted but I believe that this is the only way that Panasonic could do it and probably the reason that other manufacturers didn't follow.

tbh, I've grown to like it as you always have a very high quality master copy that can be converted. It's a very clever machine (maybe too clever).

Note: Depending on the channel I seem to remember there being restrictions on how many archived copies can be made. I'm not sure if this is still the case.

Good luck.

If it's anything like the Panasonic DVD recorded I used to have, the issue is what format the video was captured onto the HDD. For example, if it was captured onto the HDD using variable rate then you couldn't do the fast copy to disc.

Only certain quality and other settings combined allowed hi-speed transfer.

Anyway, I don't see why you can't transfer in real time. You choose all the video clips you want to transfer to disc (it should be telling you how much space they will take up). When you've selected all the ones you want for a particular disc just let it run overnight and then in the morning, master the disc with the menus etc to turn it into a correctly formatted DVD.

Nothing, the hard drive is registered to the one machine and will only be playable through that machine.
