Hello
I tried to record something in BBC1 and it popped up with the option to record the HD channel. Why direct this work for Channel 4 |

." This programme may or may not be available on the simulcast HD version of this channel in true HD. Unfortunately only the broadcaster has the information whether the source of the video was SD and upscaled by the broadcaster and chooses to transmit this information. At this end I can't tell if the source was HD or not as it has the same number of pixels in both cases. I apologise for my shortcomings in this respect "Trouble is you would now get the prompt for every single programme, which would be kind of pointless.

If the only way to find out if programmes on 4 HD are 'True' HD it seems logical to record it on their HD channel and then later check out the PQ and programme, an HD record option would save FreeTime users navigating to 126 or going to favourites to record. |

But we do get the record in HD option on the G1 Freesat Humax Foxsat HDR, kindly added by Humax I believe due to the lack EPG info supplied 4. (They kept their record in HD prompt simple as their wasn't any need to mention all that pointless stuff Graham was going on about, unless the user is worried about saving disc space)

As the UI on the G2 boxes is down to Freesat not Humax you should be asking Freesat. |

If the information isn't provided by the broadcaster in the epg data where else can Humax get the information that the programme will be transmitted from a HD master ?
![]() It's entirely possible Channel 4 includes the info in the G1 epg and does not in the G2 epg data. As the UI on the G2 boxes is down to Freesat not Humax you should be asking Freesat. As for your second point the, 4's HD G1/G2 EPG info is the same, the Foxsat gives the record in HD/SD for every programme on 4, this gives users the chance to either check out the PQ on the HD channel or save disc space and record in SD. They can do either from the top of the EPG, which is very useful. 3rd point I agree the OP should pop along to the official Freesat forum and ask. |

At the moment the only way to find out what the PQ is going to be like is to record it via the 4 HD channel and then watch it. It may or may not be from a HD master, but surely it would be nice to be offered the option to find out ! Humax/Freesat don't need to know if it is true HD they aren't at all bothered with their G1 box, they just supply options for recording on a better quality channel.

Baffled if you want to record/view from the better quality option why would you watch Channel 4 in SD in the first place ?

![]() As channel 4-HD is simulcast the link is completely pointless unless it could actually identify which content is real HD. And no the link isn't pointless on the Foxsat HDR and it wouldn't be pointless on the 1000s either it would just means the user could record the main HD channels from the top of the EPG, no need to go down to 126 or press guide list up okay etc etc to get favourites up, SD fans could still record SD and HD fans could record the HD channel and then see* if it's in HD and decide whether they want to watch it. (* once recorded some of us can use our eyes to identify content that is real HD, we don't need the EPG info to tell us and quite often some Real HD content looks rubbish ) It's a shame FreeTime doesn't allow us to reorder our favourites and get to them via a shortcut, none of this would really matter then. The HD Genre list will still take a quite a few button presses to get up and the channels will be in the wrong order. |

As I said though, the EPG opens up on the channel your viewing and doesn't automatically go to the top of the EPG anyway.
The only time it goes to 101 by default is if your watching say a news channel and you use the 'genre' screen and then select entertainment. As Graham said, open EPG and tap in 126. Quick and easy. |

I've got a programmable remote so it's even easier, I have a few shortcuts to save my thumps, so one press for 101, 108, 119 or 126 and if one press to get my favourite channels up, so recording 4HD isn't really a problem for me.
But it would be nice to reorder favourites and get them in the correct order. Maybe the Remote Record App will allow us to do what the FreeTime software can't ! |
