so many idiotic comments in this thread its hard to know where to start , how much do you actually think this girl earned at the height of her career which was like 35 years ago , she is just a normal person not an international popstar earning megabucks like they do now . the girl has hit hard times like anybody posting in this thread could do , maybe you should think about that before being so judgemental .

What I find odd about her being on benefits, is that surely she'd find a job easily? The Job centre has loads of partnerships with hotels and the like, surely any independent hotel would JUMP at hiring a famous receptionist, for example? The press it would bring to an independent company would be great for them.

Again this is assuming she was actually claiming Job Seeker's Allowance, rather than some kind of disability or incapacity benefit resulting from her recent encounter with Cancer.

That's the problem, The Nolans act and talk about their music career as though they were as popular as the spice girls,in reality they hardly scratched the surface, so I don't blame anyone for thinking she must have squandered her money, that's the impression they like to give.

They were very popular and worked incredibly hard ......not in a 'pop star' way but touring the country doing smaller gigs and doing TV performances when 'variety' was popular. When they speak of their success it is always tongue in cheek. They know that they weren't pop/rock icons. They know full well that they were a cheesey variety act. They simply worked very hard at what they did ..........nothing to be sneered at there.

So now she's got a space on this show (uh why) so we can all fund her debt problems??

Fair enough they're all in it for the money in some respect but her pitiful benefits reference really was scraping the barrel”

Referring to a housemate as The Nolan rather than giving her the common courtesy of her name reeks of hostility and deliberate insult. It is all too predictable that this would be followed by a vicious and nasty rant.

Fortunately, most posters are not fooled by such spite and can take a rational and clear-eyed view of reality, with understanding of the ups and downs of life.

She can't be living to rough, she's as 3 x as me... or is she just shopping at Aldi and hitting up on the food banks now and then?

She didn't say she's been living rough - she said she's been living on benefits - I don't think she ever claimed to be starving.

I am so uncomfortable about this thread and am living in hope that someone/anyone hits alert.

Well, she looks full by living on her benefits. She know something I don't? ...or am I too stupid to just recognise a scrounger? (forgot this )

Just makes her seem more real to me. It happens to people, if a celebrity can be on benefits, anyone can.

I disagree, here we are 30 odd years later and they are still trying to make money from the "Nolan" name, ( As you admit, they were just a cheesy group of sisters, who got luck for a few years) some people just cant let go of the past, and that's how I see the Nolans....

Why even mention she's on benefits? just sympathy seeking IMO

It would appear that being on benefits has turned her back into a celebrity.

She always was one but just not getting an income. It shows you that celebrities are real people.

What I find very sad is that we are now in a society thanks mainly to this government that having to living on benefits because of hardships is now considered so low that to "confess" it is seen as very brave.
What has this society become when people have to be made ashamed because they fall on hard times

I think that when in work entertainers earn far more than in an ordinary jobs wages. They should make it last rather than blowing it quickly and then pleading poverty. They may be taxed but so many of those who plead poverty don't pay that either. I don't feel sorry for her, let her get herself a day job which at least will feed her as my neighbor who is battling cancer does.

Spot on! There seems to be a lot of uneducated people here who truly don't understand the system and believe everything the Tory's have told them.
1st it is not easy to claim. You don't just turn up at the job center and get thousands of pounds.
2nd there are just not enough jobs for everyone.
3rd This stereotype that everyone on benefits are scum is ridiculous. Anyone can lose their job at any time and need help.

How rude! I am an actress and earn well. I look after my money . There are just as many people in the entertainment world who save just like all professions. Why do you assume she blow it all? Awful things happen in life like what's happened to your poor neighbour. Even though as you have said she has most likely paid taxes,Because of her of her occupation she dosn't deserver help when the worst happens to her to.

I never thought for one moment they weren't real people...... maybe she was always a celeb, but their act dried up years ago, so The Nolans are no more, the sisters who have little talent could have retrained for another job years ago if they really didn't make that much money in their hay day.................there are loads of acts who have had their day and found other employment, but the Nolans refuse to go away

Being part of a group (money goes 4 ways, and is already probably a sliver after management and company cuts) that peaked 25 years ago does not make you particularly rich, I'd imagine...

Well exactly. The real money in the music business is paid to songwriters not puppet performers. I doubt if Linda ever earned that much from the Nolan Sisters and what she did earn was probably used up years ago.

She is just as entitled to claim benefits as anyone else who is unemployed. I admire her honesty and the fact that she is doing something now to get off benefits.

You are aware that Linda Nolan has worked as a singer/entertainer for over forty years aren't you? She hasn't worked a lot recently due to ill health and a bereavement which is why she's having some temporary money problems. Why when she has always found work in the entertainment industry would she be looking to re train?

Aw why are you crying. Chin up and don't let the life of Linda and her sisters reduce you to tears. By the way, seeing as you know so much about Linda you will concur that her life hasn't been the easiest, cancer and the loss of her beloved husband and sister cannot have been easy.

Oh and by the way, she has been in a retraining programme to earn her degree in the areana of social welfare.

She hit hard times, it happens to many and a bit of compassion wouldn't go amiss. I'm sure you'll be delighted that she is in gainful employment on CBB and not in receipt of benefits.oh and by the way, if the "Nolans" are qualified enough for tv stations to employ them, who are you to tell them to go away...
