cat being sick

Hi

My little man has started being sick after eating.

Initially he also seemed to be having trouble pooing. We took him to the vets where he had a blood test - he is 15 years old. Thankfully the blood test came back clear other than an inrease in white blood cells which the vet said was a sign of infection.

He had an anti biotic injection and was also given some medication to act like a laxitive and one to stop him being sick. He also had an enema which made him go right away.

The medications are one you have to syringr into his mouth which he hates so I feel so guilty giving this to him.

Throughout all this his behaviour seems normal. He sleeps the same and asks to go outside, sniffing and spraying when he does like normal. Other than the being sick since he has been to the vets nothing about him seems different.

I know sickness isnt unusual in cats, but in him it is. He is rarely a sickly cat. He eats pouches of food including felix, whiskas and co op, etc - what ever he isn't being fussy with at the time! He also sometimes has tuna and has done more so lately with being off colour prior to his vet visit. He also loves dreamies and his most recent bout of being sick was after having some of them although he only bought up saliva.

I know I probably havent helped by failing to administer the anti vomiting stuff but it was quite distressing the first time with him frothing up a lot afterwoods.

I suppose I am seeing if anyone has any similar experience and what the outcome was? I am cntemplating a dreamies drought but since this never affected him before I am not sure that would help. I've also tried him on chicken but my notoriously fussy cat turns his nose up at it!

I know you mentioned tests did they check level in kidney functions ?

Hi. Thank you for responding. Yes he kidneys were tested and came as normal which is a relief since that was my biggest concern.

Although he isnt a hunter I'm wondering if this could be something like worms? I havent seen any though, not that examining the contents of the litter tray is one of my life goals.

Ha litter checking is the best eh

Even though he isn't a hunter is he a nibbler by this I mean eats anything off the floor or outside ?

I have a cat who likes to try stuff with his paws then mouth and got sick a few months ago , all tests were normal but they treated it as something he ate gave meds and 2 day later he was back to hyper self

What colour is the vomit (nice question I know! )

I had a cat who was diagnosed with pancreatitis. Similar symptoms to your cat. The vomit was mid to dark brown. Almost gravy like - it didn't contain any food.

We went through blood and urine tests and like you everything came back ok. It took an ultrasound to diagnose.

The symptoms of pancreatitis can be treated but it cannot be cured and it can be real nasty for a cat. If kitty cat is still being sick it wouldn't do any harm to ask your vet's opinion on whether it could be pancreatitis

Did they check his thyroid? My cat was vomiting all the time and his thyroxine levels were too high.

The vomit is dark brownish but then so is his food and it does appear to be that he is bringing up.

The vet checked him over and seemed to be looking around his neck a bit so I am hoping thyroid isn't a problem. I lost my beautiful girl cat nearly a year ago after she had to be pts following a tumour on her thyroid.

As an update with the little man, he has his last anti sickness medication on Monday and wasn't sick last night so I'm hoping this is the end of it and he can go back to being his normal self.

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Our pets really do cause us worry! I'm hoping this will be the last of mine for a while..
