Didn't they do that when David Tennant regenerated into Matt Smith, playing the same character?

New Doctor, all characters, tardis, sequence, plot... It all changed at the same time and it was mistake. I felt like I am watching different show. We need continuity. I'd like to see for example: Eleventh meets Donna, Twelfth meets Martha, Midnight monster explained, Fires of Pompeii from Capaldi' s POV, return of Family of Blood, Donna' s memories back, etc. Just to connect eras and make Doctor Who ONE SHOW.

It is one show. How is bringing back tired and played out old characters and ruining the mystery of a classic episode going to change that? There have been numerous connections between the Moffat era and the RTD era.

It was just examples that comes to my mind.

The only connection between those eras are The End of the Time and The Day of the Doctor and it isnt enough because there shouldnt be eras at all. Changing everything AT ONCE was very bad for continuity.

But Doctor Who has always changed. It's part of the show's DNA.

Look at the change that occurred when Patrick Troughton left. Jon Pertwee's Doctor left Jamie & Victoria behind and was exiled to earth. In turn Tom Baker's doctor left UNIT largely behind and went off exploring the universe again.

Although Clara's staying for the forseeable future, no doubt Series 8 will see another set of changes.

There will still be plenty of nods to the past though. This is still the same show. No doubt Capaldi will face the Daleks at some point, try to find Gallifrey and run into Kate Stewart's UNIT.

However, it wouldn't be Doctor Who if it didn't change every few years. After all, it's the only show on television where the main character changes his face every few years!

I'm still desperate to know what RTD's plan was for having more than one Capaldi in his universe (Torchwood and FOP) and if Moffat is going to go ahead with it.

I also wonder if it'll explain other "Random lookalikes" like Martha and her cousin, one of the Soothsayers and Amy Pond and maybe even Commander Maxil and the 6th Doctor!

Didn't 'The Eleventh Hour' have 9/10's console room at the start (it also reappeared in 'The Doctors Wife'), 9/10's screwdriver and the psychic paper? So there were links to the RTD era there.

Also wasn't 3's era almost a complete reset too inc new titles, stuck on earth rather than travelling and only the Brig as a link. And they both had a multi doctor story featuring mainly three Doctors!

Change is what kept Doctor Who on the air for so long in the first place!

I too don't think there should be a big swansong in 2015 to mark 10 years since the show came back to TV.

I don't mind an Auton episode set in 2005 which in someway links to 'Rose' at all as a nice nod to the fact that it has been back on for 10 years. Though I expect it will be something cleverer than that.

Also given that it looks like we are going to have an Autumn broadcast for future series it wouldn't really fit with it being a special in Easter and might seem strange for them just to have an Easter special if they are not doing so already - I can't see them doing an Easter special this year either as I doubt that would be how Moffat would want to introduce the 12th Doctor.

No, I don't think they'll end the series to mark 10 years.

You got me wrong. I am not against change. It is necessary. I just think that in the moment when the Doctor is regenerating, nothing else should be changed, just to avoid creating 'eras'.
And I am really glad that Clara and Vastra/Jenny/Strax will be in season 8 - because of continuity!

I think it should be a run of the mill episode with few nods and winks but not the full blown Anniversary spectacular thing.

Unless Ecclestone, Tennant and Matt Smith put their names in the hat then I'd be more than happy to see the kitchen sink come out.

Be a nice touch to have RTD write and episode but aside from that I am not sure we need another anniversary episode, unless its a reason to get McGann back

my god., how confusing would the casual viewer find that? we're celebrating 50 years in a big way and then a few years later we're celebrating ten years.....

don't think so

I'm not against Christopher Eccleston making an appearance as the Master though... that could be cool and I reckon he may well do that as a one off... and if fans want to see it as a nod to ten years then all well and good

Christopher Eccleston as the Master? Eh?

Moffat might have gone by then... Chris Chibnall may be in charge by then.

Did I hear a few fainters hitting the floor...?

I'm thinking supplementary material- documentaries, radio dramas, etc.- would be best, so that the people who are interested have something but the people at large are not confused.

I think a documentary would be brilliant! With RTD now slowly returning to TV it would be great to have an hour long looking at how they brought the show back with RTD front and centre along with Moffat and Tennant and Julie Gardner and Phil Collinson etc.

It was one part of the shows narrative that really didn't get enough coverage in the fiftieth.

Celebrate the 2005 return? Kind of feels like that was done in Journey's End, then again in End of Time, then again in Day of the Doctor (which felt far more a celebration of New Who than Classic Who to me). I think anything more so soon would be celebration overkill.

How so? Of course the large focus would be on the present series.
