People easily forget the laws and rules enforced over here on political correctness aren't the same overseas.

I do think the comments are being blown out of proportion. In America it wouldn't be a big deal.
Typical of the media over here, it's a massive thing.

Which is a pity, getting Holyfield was a big coup, and will no doubt put other big name Americans off.

Just because homosexuality is legal, does not make it right in everyones eyes. Whilst we should all be tolerant of each other, Holyfield is entitled to his opinion without being reprimanded for it. People will make up their own mind as to whether he is homophobic or not. Do not forget that homosexuality was classed as a mental illness in America until the end of the sixties. Then they passed a law to legalise it and they all came out the closet. A veritable, miracle cure. So, whether you like it or not, he has a point.

What's his point? That gay people can be fixed like someone with a disability and that it's a choice?

Very strange! I have been really shocked and quite disheartened at the reaction on here to Evander's comments on the show last night.

Hmm, I'm starting to think that this event could blow up. It;s being written about in loads of newspapers with numerous celebrities comments, as well as an American gossip site.”

Holding someone captive and beating them is SO much more fun!!!

Why be shocked? It was obvious there would be people for and against what he said. It is the world we live in.

SADLY!!! The reaction is NOT a surprise to me, fact is, if you have a view or opinion NOT accepted by the left you are shut down and cannot be heard, very dangerous IMO

Nope the nonsense things is when people (like you) try to impose their views on others.

It's funny how the ones spouting the ignorance crap can't see how ignorant they themselves are being.

That's exactly what the editors want, I don't think most give a crap though, it's not that unusual for very traditional religious people to take a non-PC line on this. There was no confrontation, no fight, no harrassment. Storm in a teacup.

Is boy george now so gay friendly that his opinions actually count? He went to prison for beating up a rent boy and tying him to a radiator. Yet evander has not hurt anyone but he cant even have his own opinion?

This thread title conjured an image of Boy George giving Evander Holyfield a wrestling style body-slam.

Haven't seen this yet but was just reading a friends facebook comments about it. It really concerns me that millions have died fighting wars to give people freedom of speech in this country, yet every time anyone makes a comment somebody disagrees with, they immediately take to social media, come over all offended and start playing the homophobe/religious/racist card. I have always been plain spoken and shall continue to be so, if people disagree with me its there right to say so and give me their opinion. Its called a democracy. This country has gone pc mad, and its making any kind of reality tv where people discuss things a waste of time.

I agree. The rest was his opinion which he can express whether some think it's wrong or right. I personally think he's wrong, being gay is not curable, it's not a choice it's just the way some people are born. It was comparing it to a disability that I think is so out of line.

I guess it depends on your views. I believe that the point of life is to procreate and feed into the circle of life. If you are born unable to do that isn't that a disability? I know there are ways round it but if you strip it back to the bones. 2 men or 2 women cant have a child so that isn't (IN MY OPINION) what nature intended so is therefore unnatural. I don't believe it is something that needs to be cured or that there is anything wrong with being gay. I just don't think it's how nature intended us to be.

Maybe you should watch it before you pass judgement. And playing the homophobe card is no worse than playing the PC card against anyone who was offended by Evander's comments. Not everyone who took offence by what he said is branding him a homophobe, those people should be allowed their freedom of speech too should they not?

Everyone should, thats the point. So why are we reprimanding people on reality tv for giving an opinion?

Who's we? Yes some people are reprimanding him, some people agree with him and some disagree with him but aren't denying the guy his opinion. It seems that those who have an issue with Evander being branded a homophobe are the first ones to scream PC PC PC against anyone who is understandably offended by comments like the ones he made.

No one is reprimanding anyone on reality tv merely for giving an opinion, as if it didn't matter what the opinion was.

Its great publicity for the show and that for me is fine. It gets people talking about something happening on Big Brother. Channel 5 will be absolutely delighted. Probably egged him on when he was saying it.

When I say "we" I actually meant BB.

Maybe as somebody a bit older I have a thicker skin and don't feel the need to take offence to every opinion I don't agree with.

Sadly, this is what social media does, as soon as somebody well known starts expressing their offence, everyone seems to follow suit.

Just remember that if everyone was gay, it would be the end of humanity. The subject will always be somewhat controversial due to this fact, and if you're gay then you have no choice but to accept that some people don't agree with it.

So you think if a gay person is told they are not normal and they take offence by that, it's because they don't have thick skin???
