Transferring my pictures from iphone to laptop

My iphone is full of photos and I would like to transfer to a file on my laptop, I'm a bit unsure what to do as I don't want to loose them, help please ?

If you have Windows, just plug the phone into the laptop using the USB cable you have for charging. It then works the same way as a digital camera - you will find the phone appears as a camera in My Computer and there is a folder called DCIM and everything inside this is your pictures and any video.

Are you sure about that ? I have always used 3rd party apps to do this job. I have just tried plugging my iPhone into a Windows PC (I usually use a Mac) and although it sees it in Explorer, it doesn't see any files.

For the OP - if you are using a Mac then there is a standard app called ImageCapture which will copy the photos.

Yep, just plug into USB, select from the list of connected devices and just open the DCIM folder.

Works EXACTLY as described for me! Plug the iPhone in and it comes up as a device. Then, as stated, photos and videos are in the DCIM folder (as on any digital camera)

That's never worked for me. It appears in my computer but when I access the icon it just displays as blank for me.

I recommend 'syncios' - it's a third party app that lets you access the file system of your iphone, where you can speedily move photos to your computer.

I've just got to the bottom of this. I have done some more testing and it is a Windows XP problem. It works fine on Windows 7.

It works on many XP machines, but they all *might* have had iTunes installed first (and removed later).

On Vista and Win7 its never needed drivers, and on Linux I'm told, but I've not tried.

I don't have an iPhone but a guy I know does and he can just plug it into the pc but nothing shows until he unlocks the iPhone

To make life easier, I would recommend setting up your PC so it can have shared folders on your network and then use an app such as filebrowser so copy your photos wirelessly.

I do this with my iPad, but access a NAS drive on my network. It will then also allow you to copy over music, films, etc.

Yep. I think it doesn't show the pics until you enter your PIN

iOS 7 now asks on the phone (or iPad) if you want to "Trust" the computer. Until you say Yes, nothing happens.

I use Dropbox. Open an account, Install the app on the i-phone, install the program on your PC, set the i-phone app to sync photos whenever it's on WiFi
