Unedited "Pilot" (35min Version)
DrCapaldi

On "The Beginning" DVD there is a 25min edited version of the Pilot (before they rerecorded the real first episode) and a 35min unedited version of the Pilot.

I was wondering if anyone knows where I can stream this (not download).

I really want to see it but don't have money for the DVD right now.

Can someone help me out?

Thanks.

Oh OK I didnt know you were located there! For me in the UK it didnt seem so much. Dont the BBC sell there in Australia? or does it still have to be shipped?
Sorry I dont know where you would be able to find the unedited version online.

Thats just annoying! I see why you wanted to find it online now. That makes it about twice the price it is here!
The BBC should make the Aussie copies in Australia and just send the relevant master media across digitally!
That way it would cost them less and they could pass the savings on to Aussie fans like you!

I'm afraid, with forum regs we cannot link you to illegal streaming or downloads.

Oh There is one thing I will say about the 35min unedited pilot, as I have it and that is the extra time is made up by retakes mostly and two sets of credits! So I dont think its too different from the 25min edited pilot.

I have it. The main difference is that The Doctor is even more irascible and less friendly in the pilot. That's about it.

There are differences between the pilot and the transmitted episode. What stands out for me is the removal of susans I was born in the 49th century line. There was a 2nd take of the 2nd part of the pilot due to the backroom people making a mess of closing the tardis doors, something they recreated in an adventure in space and time.

I can understand why they decided to change a few things, but I really think William Hartnell's portrayal of The Doctor in the edited Pilot is very interesting when compared to the actual aired episode.

I wonder if the show would have still been successful had they not altered his character at that early stage. . .I guess we'll never know!

I'm afraid what you've got there is the 25-minute edit.

Having performed a quick check of those streaming services I have access to: neither Netflix nor Amazon Prime have the episode at all; both iTunes and Hulu have the "25"-minute version (which seems to be 23 minutes and 18 seconds, on iTunes at least).

You should consider getting"The Beggining" box-set. The episode is on there, alongside the first three stories.

It's an excellent purchase, trust me, I doubt you'd regret buying it.

I actually prefer the unaired pilot episode. To me, It seems better written and has more exciting bits. The incidental music, I think, is much better too. More menacing, and unnearving. I just love the "I was born in the 49th Century" bit, from Susan.

There is only one problem with the pilot, and that's the music in the opening titles. I don't like the rumble the music has for two seconds during it. They should have used the opening titles from the aired first episode. Also, the music is muffled too, when the "Ooh, wee, ooh!" bit comes in.

Here is what I mean:

You can hear it after 4 seconds.

I wish they could have kept the scene where Susan does the abstract painting and then gets frightened by it. That, added to her disturbing behaviour with the scissors a few months later, would have set her up to be a more intriguing character.
