The Beatles and Muse

Been a while since I did a stupid pub quiz thread. As usual I actually dont know the answer

Footage of the Beatles was shown in a Hartnell episode after he fixed the time/space device he took from the Space Museum. In the beginning of Rebel Flesh, Muse are playing on the 'speakers' in the TARDIS while Matt scans Amy confusedly to determine if she is pregnant.

Can anyone think of other instances of pop music played in the TARDIS, a part me thinks there were no more......

Not exactly Doctor Who, but Assassin by Muse was played in the fight club Torchwood episode

Didn't they dance to Glenn Miller in The Doctor Dances? That was pop music in its day.

And there was whatever record the Doctor was listening to in the TV Movie.

"Fire Woman" by the Cult was played in Journey To The Centre Of The TARDIS. Though I think that was probably played on the salvage ship rather than the TARDIS...

Jo quotes from the Beatles' "I Am The Walrus" in the Three Doctors, prompting Troughton to ask how it goes so he can play it on his recorder...

Other uses of contemporary pop music: "Nobody Knows The Trouble I've Seen" by the Seekers, and "Paperback Writer" by the Beatles are playing in the coffee bar in Evil Of The Daleks part 1. And Fleetwood Mac's "Oh Well" was playing in the factory production line scene in Spearhead From Space.

I thought that was classical music?

On the Graham Norton radio show on 23/11/13 the interviews were interspersed with tunes that had been on Dr Who (there were plenty).

'Toxic' by Britney Spears in The End of the World.

Sounded jazzy to me, like a torch song.

It's becoming unclear, though, whether the OP is looking for (1) only music played inside the TARDIS or (b) only music that was 'contemporary' when it appeared in the episode.

Didn't the master play something about drums (was it the tings tings?)...

It was the Rogue Traders' Voodoo Child.

In A Dream, sung by Pat Hodge, I believe.

It kept catching on the word "Time".

Courtney Pine popped up in Silver Nemeis.

Not the same I know but I think we are at the scrapping the barrel stage of the thread.

"I'm singing what I call a song."

Sorry, wrong person.

We had 'Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick' by Ian Dury and the Blockheads' played in the TARDIS scene at the start of 'Tooth and Claw', I believe. Long time since I've seen it.

You're right...

Dear god that was an awful moment. Shoehorning some really bad pop song into the episode...

It was supposed to be just "pop" and "in the TARDIS" only but as CAMERA OBSCURA says the barrel got scraped very early on this, and I'm enjoying the other responses. I'm surprised this thread got more than 5 responses!

Well, as long as we're liberally scraping the barrel let's mention the other appearance of Beatles music ('Do You Want to Know a Secret' and 'A Taste of Honey' used in Remembrance of the Daleks) and the assorted bits of pop music played by the DJ in Revelation of the Daleks.

Oh no, I meant my post was scrapping the barrel not the ones before it. It seemed like all the songs had been named and all I could think of was Courtney Pine.

Has anyone catalogued the songs that Troughton did play on his recorder?

Also, do fingernails scraped on a blackboard count as a song? I'm pretty sure that's what Adric was aiming for every time he opened his mouth.
