Thoughts on auditioning for the summer series?

I've been sort of contemplating auditioning for the civilian series this summer as I really want to do something different with my summer but thought I might bring the subject up here to see what the general consensus on appearing on the show is with people who actually know the show well.

Firstly, I'm mostly interested in doing it because it's always seemed like a really fun and fascinating experience to me, I've watched the show for years, seen every series and doing it has long been a dream of mine. Granted I haven't followed the Channel 5 reincarnation even nearly as closely, only following the Celebrity series really. Fame is honestly not the pursuit here, I'm after a fun summer that could potentially end with £100,00 [if I'm exceedingly lucky of course].

On a side note, whilst fame is not something I crave, I am studying journalism and I'm constantly told to do as much networking in these college years as I can to make connection in the media and what not. I thought, what better way to make connections than to enter the belly of the beast itself, if only for 15 minutes [or less given the state of the show's presence in the media today.] Not sure if I'm being terribly naive on this note however.

A few years ago I'd probably be too scared to audition because of stories of Grace being mugged on the street by drunken haters or some of the disaster stories heard by Makosi, Nadia, Emma, etc. Today this risk seems to be significantly smaller due to the shows relatively small viewing figures. But I'd genuinely be interested to hear what people on the forum's thoughts would be - basically I don't want to risk ruining my life.

Information about me that's probably essential to form an opinion on the situation - I'm 18, Irish, in univsersity and just for good measure, I'm gay. Sorry this is a really boring topic

Make sure you have an agent and some media work on your CV

Be prepared for disappointment as more than often or not in the 5 era they go more for looks and not personality when they cast the normal not rights

As they are so fond of pointing out in auditions, don't take it personally if they don't pick you

I've been thinking of auditioning, i'm male and not gay so i guess i'm already in a small minority of those who audition.

Good grief I can't think of anything I would like to do less.

You do read the posts on here don't you? You realise that you will inviting the harshest criticism from the DS Forumites who can tell exactly what you are thinking or what you meant wasn't what you said from the slightest (imaginary) nuance and every slip of the tongue will be proof that you are vile or fake or both.

If its really what you want then I wish you every success.

Given that BB seem to have a rather formulaic approach to diversity I would think being gay and Irish will be assets. Good luck to you. x

LMAO - give the types they normally pick (Not you OP I am sure you are lovely) I would be more inclined to take it personally if they did pick me.

I should totally apply. I'd love to get in there, mark my territory and take control of the house!

Hey, it's a once in a lifetime opportunity...

Crikey...I wouldn't bother. They are just going through the motions with these auditions.
I would imagine the contestants for the summer BB have already been chosen from the glamour mags, stage schools, ones who have already done dummy runs for previous BB's, personal friends/aquaintances of said presenter/producer,..... etc, etc.
I doubt many, if any, from the auditions are chosen.

Well the first stage of the audition process is to fill out the form and record a 90 second video of yourself and submit it online, then they will call you back to one of 4 audition days in London and Manchester. I'd imagine that if rumours are to believed and that nobody really gets in on auditioning the traditional way then it's this initial stage that is the farce and that nobody actually gets called to those call back days, so I suppose I've nothing to lose by making a video and see if I get a call back date.

HM's are headhunted these days aren't they? Those auditions are there just on the off chance they'll find someone oozing charisma or sleaze. If you're abundantly blessed in either go for it
