Dancing On Ice To C5

Five struggle alot in share and viewers most nights before big brother at 9pm.

Apparently Desmond could be intrested In DOI, though Torvil and Dean are done, Desmond could easily attract two new pro skaters to teach.

It would help boost five above C4 and C2 in earlier slots.

Take a couple of million off its current viewers, due to channel reach, and it should still get 2-3million viewers.

I'd imagine it's a fairly expensive show to produce, plus it does have the stench of death on it in a way that even Big Brother didn't.

C5 might not be a good environment for it, many have said BB has deteriorated since its move from C4 though of course it already had issues.

Like CBB (and to some extent BB as well) I'd certainly expect to see even more "reality TV" and "glamour model" types in the cast if it did occur.

C5 could do it, if they really wanted to, but they would need to completely re-invent the show for it to stand any chance of future success.

Desmond likes his shows cheap so I doubt he'll want DOI even minus T&D

On second thoughts I suppose the way it's gone the past couple of series with all the apparent muckraking and infighting etc it might be right at home there!

There is a rumour Desmond wants to sell C5, so I wouldn't think he would go and buy the rights at the moment, with his future up in the air.

Exactly, DOI is a very expensive show to produce. And don't underestimate the difficulty of teaching a group of celebs to skate - not in a Dance studio, like Strictly - but needing to hire ice time in rinks up and down the country. Then choreographing Ensemble routines and all the celeb/pro routines every week. It's not easy and it's very expensive. Then there's hiring all the ice equipment and creating the rinks at Elstree Studios. You need specialist equipment and engineers. A Designer and Wardrobe and Hair Dept. I think some viewers may've been lulled into believing it's a doddle to get DOI on air.
If they still had the sister shows on to have features about all this stuff, it would've been good, for the last series.

Supposedly Desmond wants to sell C5 so who knows. BB and CBB have gone downhill since C5 have taken over the show and really, who would they get to be on it? Torvill and Dean are the best skaters the UK has produced and the UK audience knows them.

I would like to see more ice skating on TV but really don't want to see another program full of z-listers and reality 'stars'. Think DOI should have a dignified ending.

In your opinion it's gone downhill. It still attracts good ratings and the present series is getting rave reviews.

As for the calibre of celeb. Cbb is equal to doi and I'm a celeb. Maybe even slightly ahead, attracting Holyfield is a big coup.

Dancing on Ice costs around 600k(big weekly Live shiny floor shows cost serious money) an hour. Big Brother costs less than a third of that per hour and attracts better demos. C5 would loose too much money.

I don't know what anyone else's opinion is but I think the show has now started to get rather boring, in that the final is always the same, with each of the top two couples skating their version of "Bolero".

From what I've seen of this series and the last one, DOI would be right at home on C5. People do watch C5 for the adverts don't they? Please don't tell me they watch it for the programming.....

I agree with you. It's all a bit of a "yawn.... we've seen that before". As for the Bolero.... I don't even like listening to that music anymore. T&D did a lot of other iconic routines that they should have used in the final of the various series.
