What's your point?

That there is a different usage?

How it it relevant when only the homophobic version is relevant in this context.

But, seeing as you call yourself an 'equal opportunities grump' and claim to be consistent, then presumably you'd also have an issue with a gay man referring to other gay men as 'queers' or a black man referring to other black men as 'n******s'. Only, in my experience, these terms uttered by gay and black people are generally seen by the self-proclaimed 'equal opportunities' crowd as non-offensive, liberating and an attempt to 'reclaim' an abusive term. Being a actual believer in equal opportunities, I say either allow everyone to use the word (my preference) or no-one. This practice of confining acceptable use of a term to a specific group whilst outlawing it elsewhere is, to my mind, both illogical and divisive.
People surely have greater freedom to discuss themselves than to discuss other people using traditionally adverse terms. If a black person calls themselves or their family 'n*****s' it doesn't sound great imo, but yes, I can see that they might be reclaiming the word. That doesn't mean that I would be acceptable if I did the same. 'Queer' is an odd one: it started off as a reclaimed word for gay and has now blossomed into a term meaning "an umbrella term for sexual and gender minorities that are not heterosexual, or gender-binary". Several universities offer courses in queer theory or literature. Even so, it retains the power to sound rude when used as an insult to a gay person, and most of us would not dream of doing so.

Well the best example to explain this is that I’m perfectly entitled to call myself an idiot but if someone else does, I’m offended.

Yes this is illogical if you take and entirely inhuman attitude but it is something every single one of us does.

It is similar with minority communities. They use the hate words that are used against them within their community to strip them of their power to hurt. The fact that they do that within their communities does not give people outside the community the right to use it.

It's sad that people need such basic issues of respect explained to them.

Its obvious that he is of limited IQ, he wears a hat in the bath, sunglasses at night and can't pull up his trousers, so I wouldn't worry too much

Hilarious how everyone thought it would be Jim offending people or getting warned etc. Yet turns out that isn't the case.

Good points.
It is a freakin minefield and the contradictions on what is acceptable are ridiculous.

I had a longer post typed on wtf is acceptable terminology, but it included the words *coloured* and *black* and I knew those mere words would incite a flurry of alerts .
Dumbed down overly pc DS .
There have been lengthy discussions on this particular subject on General Discussion. It is allowed, although perhaps it's not a BB topic per se.

I suspect Jim is watching what he says fairly closely. There is so much visual stimulus on display in baths that Dappy is forgetting to mind his p's and q's

However Jim has managed to annoy me.
In a conversation with Linda he said 'I'm up and down like a bride's knickers'

I have never heard that expression used before and if a bloke said it to me I would be far from impressed.
He is like a relic from a bygone age.

That term was quite tame given the term that I've usually heard. I found nothing offensive in that at all.

Surely that term would only mean that the new wife and her husband were 'at it' quite a lot lol.

If the broadcaster did not show the 'offensive' clips then no offence would or could be taken except by those inside the house. Any reprimand given could equally be done off-camera.

In my opinion Channel 5 is 100% to blame for any offence given to the public since they choose to present their edited elements to the public.

i heard that too - he's old school, it's 'carry-on' film, slapstick comedy - it's not everyone's sense of humour, but I'm sure Linda will say if anything he says offends her, (as she went in the house hoping he'd not be in there too because she said he was a male chauvanist) - but what he said was just a little joke, not 'about' or 'to' anyone....it was innuendo about hanky panky and a bride, so I think harmless enough and not offensive compared to what the others say and get up to that's for sure !!!

----I'd rather listen to Jim's dated one-liners, than the sex talk by the Smutsville UK Group (Dappy, Lee, Jasmine, Luisa) that's for sure....

Oh dear. I know it's kind of supposed to be inoffensive lingo but to some it will be offensive. Tying in with what Holyfield said, this could be bad...

Also on Tellymix it says it's his THIRD warning!
Is it right that you only have three warnings and after that you're out?

Evolution will probably sort out losing the last vertebrae at some point I daresay.

I doubt it. Something that makes solo sex that much easier is an unlikely contender to be selected in.

Would they have said anything to, for example Christopher Biggins, if he had said "Do I look like I am straight?"?
Great point

I can see why Evander's comments have caused a stir but not really this one.

If you was offended at this you must have hated Ali G!

I hear what you say. However, just from my point of view, I do think BB are very VERY selective in airing remarks that they consider tv bombs/ ratings winners..I can almost see the producers high fiving each other with delight when Evander expressed those views.

I think many a hm has made an unsavoury remark but BB have chosen not to show it. Just my take on it
