Why be so nip-picky and pedantic? The implication was clear from the post below. Surely you can see what point Blue Eyed Lady was making?

I don't understand why you can't just engage with the thread topic - why Linda is disliked - rather than picking pointless holes in other people's posts? As an approach, it really doesn't encourage reasonable discussion.

Excuse me if I come across as rude ................I am merely making an observation but - why do you find it necessary to nit pick posts? This is a 'casual' forum - people type things out from the comfort of their own home ......often they don't read back or edit as the boards move quickly. You do appear to pick up on tiny bits of posts trying to make a point. I don't find it very constructive but - each to their own

Methinks some posters are being pedantic for the sake of it.

I like LInda at the mo...that may change if she turns into the creature a handful of people have depicted her as though........

It's two rather different things, so no, I don't think the difference is quite splitting hairs, but thank you for explaining.

Anyway, these forums have a long history of disliking "sob stories", and things that could be bids for sympathy, from contestants in CBB or other shows.

Yes I see what you mean now. I edited my post.

It's -alleged - in showbiz circles that Linda is hard work

I don't know if that means she actually IS hard work or if she merely stands up for herself and doesn't take sh**

This alleged reputation has found its way into the media/ tat daily rags a few times over the years

But I'm afraid if it's celebs hearsay then it's a set in stone truth and as a lot of people - especially those who've been negative about her on threads on DS - like to align themselves with the stars they deem themselves 'part of the club' by perpetuating the myths

Cups dogs and Marc Almond anyone?

I don't find anything of the sort necessary. And if you think I'm "nit picking" what trevor tiger meant, please explain to me what was meant, because I cannot work it out.

Feel free to put me on your ignore list if you don't like the way I write.

I remember Julie Goodyear having a similar reputation .............I chose to hold off until I made my own mind up. Has to be said .it was pretty accurate and it didn't take long to confirm it.

Don't see it with Linda but time will tell.

I would put you on ignore if I felt it was necessary. I don't. I was simply pointing something out and .......it looks like I wasn't on my own in holding that opinion.

I love Linda and am rooting for her. She's been there, seen it, done it. Anyone who knows a bit of her history knows that. Good luck to her.

That's my problem with this though. If she eg. has a go at someone for whatever reason, those that claim she's trouble will pounce on it as evidence of her being the bitch they said she was, with no concession to context or objectivity. They won't look at it as an isolated incident, it will be just 'her natural bitch' coming out.

I'm still waiting for evidence of this 'bitch'.

Thanks!

I get it now.

(I think the misunderstanding is just the common problem that the person who writes something knows what they meant and so reads it as having that meaning, but someone else might hit on a different one of the possible meanings instead.)

Anyway, I agree that it makes no sense to dislike one of the Nolans because you dislike another; but Loose Women ... The panelists seem to have quite bit in common (in opinions and attitudes), and they've all agreed to be on that show, which I think is often an irritating and unpleasant one; so I think that being a Loose Woman panelist is a bit of a point against someone.

If you are implying Linda is out for sympathy, then I don't think she is & I too equally dislike when people give us their sob stories.
Linda told everyone she'd been on benefits without a shred of self pity or "poor me".

Well, I call that a sly dig. And if you mean me, you're wrong.

Different people think and write in different ways. A little more tolerance might be called for.

I didn't like the attitude she seemed to have at the start -- nothing very definite, just some looks and remarks -- but she's seemed ok more recently. OTOH, I've seen so litte of her lately that it's hard to know what she's like.

You didn't only ask for reasons. In the post I was answering there, you seemed to be making a case that Linda "didn't plant seeds or anything like it" and "was just stating a fact and acknowledging that she's had a bit of a hard time" rather than making a sympathy plea.

Blue Eyed Lady was saying that what had been said about Linda trying to gain sympathy was "utter rubbish"; but it wasn't clear that Blue Eyed Lady had the right idea of what it was that had been seen as a sympathy bid.

I have engaged with the thread topic, but this is a discussion forum in which we can also engage with other posts.

If you don't like the way I think or my posting style, please put me on ignore rather than making off topic posts criticising me so that the thread ends up cluttered with meta-discussion.

Why do you think it's you, just out of interest ?

I didn't say I thought it was me; it said "if". But I'm the one other posters were attacking, so it seemed possible you were joining in. I supposed if people keep it up, I can be bullied out of the thread, but it's all off topic and contrary to the forum rules.

Going back to Linda

I take my time in making up my mind about HM's so I am pretty neutral about them all still but I find nothing to object to. She seems perfectly pleasant to me.

However and here is a thing, when posts start rubbishing a contestant within hours of them going in apparently to serve some preconceived notion or agenda the authors had before the show even began I find myself rallying behind the contestant under attack.

Someone asked the other day if what was written on the forum made you change your mind about HMs. In general I would say not but attempts to run negative political campaigns without any substance do tend to have the opposite effect on me.

I should also perhaps declare that I find the forum far more fascinating that the programme much of the time. You guys are endlessly entertaining.

Linda will be difficult to warm to if your narrative of her is already wary

From what I gather so far she's seems to have a high level of social savvy (having lived many lives) with a good dose of sussed nudge-nudge wind-up in there

I think we'll see plenty to warm us to her unless someone manages to push all the wrong buttons then god knows

If it does kick off - and lets face it it's inevitable given the environment - I'm sure she'll be good value

Love her and Jim to come away from this with an unexpected friendship

They've both been easy punching bags in the media for many years and so far I think they've done themselves proud
