I see what you mean, but I also have a problem with people calling those with restricted growth or dwarfism, 'dwarves', as if they are a different species.

That was the normal sized alien. The other one is a giant, on his planet.

Some people with dwarfism would be offended by being picked up without consent. Just like you wouldn't like someone pulling down your trousers in the street/pulling your hood over your head/tripping you up, or any other manner of things someone who doesn't know you could possibly do without your consent. All in the spirit of 'fun'.

Your fun and someone else's fun are two different things,so best keep your hands to yourself.

But the thing is i wouldn't be offended by any of those things. The most i can be is pissed off because it's annoying, but to be offended by it would be pathetic.

Thinking about it, if it was a dwarf, as I doubt it was a child, it does seem slightly inappropriate to pick them up...its hardly a major offence but I do slightly agree with the OP.

Regardless of whether YOU would be offended or not doesn't really matter, someone else might. We need to learn to respect other people's personal space.

In fairness, how would you react if two people you'd never met before randomly picked you up against your will and started carrying you off somewhere? It must be really tiresome, especially for someone who probably experiences it regularly.

It's incredibly rude to put your hands on anyone (regardless of their size) without their permission. Obviously, no malice was intended. And I actually quite like them both. But it was incredibly inconsiderate and thoughtless of them.

And I'm saying this as someone who is only 5 foot. I have frequently been picked up by random people at the pub who seem to think it's funny to either carry me from one side of the pub to the other, or throw me up and down because ''Aw, you're really small!'' It's actually incredibly irritating and degrading.

Dwarf is a perfectly ordinary term, though I see that 'dwarfs' is the preferred plural, not 'dwarves'.

I do see that treating a short adult as if they were a tapdancing, curly haired moppet of a child is irritating and tactless, but I guess the costume confused things. What they saw was a small alien, who produced the same sense of cuteness as a small rhino would have done.

Oh jeez. I am so glad i don't know anyone on here personally, i would hate to have a bit of a laugh and joke with you lot. I would start getting lectures because i have done something that you think is offensive when really it was just a bit of fun.

So pointing out that people who are very small and could well be insecure about how easily someone could pick them up as if they were still a child might not want to just be picked up like that by strangers makes people on here depressing? Its just common sense.

It's definitely a faux pas. Picking anyone up without their consent is rude, no matter how many people say, "It wouldn't bother me."

Picking up a small person is on a par with slapping a bald person's head à la Benny Hill, or 'borrowing' somebody's walking stick or spectacles.

Thankfully, the actor (Warwick Davis?) chose to play it down. I expect if that ever happens off camera he's more vocal.

I disagree, it may be ordinary, in that some people don't really think about it so everyone says it...but saying things like 'don't pick up a dwarf', or 'Miley Cyrus spanks a dwarf', are reducing a person to a label. We're talking about a person with a medical condition, not an animal. Why should they be defined by it?
