I think, if Sherwood has been given a target and he achieves it, it would be a harsh decision to replace him.

Of course, I can see what people say about Van Gaal but there are variables. He may be past his best, he may not adapt to the premiership, his record may be partially due to the sort of clubs he's managed. There would be more disruption and lack of continuity.

On the plus side, he would add credibility to the club and does come with a big reputation.

Anyway, I don't see it as a slam dunk. I still think it will be really hard to come 4th. I can see us losing it on GD!

4th will be tough to achieve, with several good teams competing for that place, and I agree, GD could be a factor.

I would also hope Sherwood is not judged on whether we finish 4th or not, but more on what he has done for the style of play, and confidence at the place.

If we do get CL football, Van Gaal will be more likely to attract better players you suspect, but in reality, it doesn't seem to be the managers choice who we buy, and for most players, money is a big factor.

we won't be finishing 4th, so it's a moot point really.

I got some pelters for saying that a few weeks ago, so I look forward to yours.

Considering you are level on points with Liverpool it's a very realistic prospect and a discussion worth having, whether you rate Sherwood or not.

that wasn't what you said at all

I think it probably was. I said I thought we were in the race for 5th, 6th or 7th, which we are. I think we are more likely to finish in one of those places than 4th. I don't pretend to know which, and I didn't entirely write off 4th, as you have done. Recent results have improved our chances, but plenty of tough games to come.

To call something a moot point is to say it is irrelevant and therefore not worthy of discussion which is patently not the case here. You are joint 4th, the point is far from moot.

right, so we didn't say the same thing, yet you're awaiting the same reaction you got

are you aware this is principally a thread for Tottenham fans to share opinions? it's rather silly of you to come in here attempting to correct me all the time.

Welcome to my world on here. I think your comments here are valid, and worthy of discussion.

We are joint 4th (5th, really) and we are on the up but I think Liverpool are stronger and Everton are doing well. If Suarez gets injured, that could change, as it could with us, with only one experienced, scoring striker until/if Soldado comes good.

Man U will probably improve their team this window and Van Persie will be back, with Rooney. But, yes, right now we're definitely in the race.

I came in here to bring up a valid discussion which you initially contributed to. I inadvertedly addressed your point by answering somebody else's and you subsequently tried to hush the whole debate by declaring it a moot point. You have had no objections to me being here until now, funny that. If you have nothing more to say, fine, but suggesting I shouldn't be in this thread because I'm not a Tottenham fan is rather pathetic.

in which case you should go back and re-read. I've got absolutely no problem you posting in here, my problem is with you trying to lecture me on what I should or shouldn't be thinking or saying. if my memory serves me correct, this is now the second time.

I also wasn't trying to hush any debate when I said it was a moot point. at most I was being a touch flippant as I'm certain we won't be finishing 4th, but why would I be trying to end a debate I myself had participated in?

Your memory is most definitely failing you.

Firstly I wasn't lecturing you on anything, on the contrary I was defending my point which you called moot. Nothing more. You can think what you want of your chances for 4th, but the fact of the matter you are currently joint 4th which makes the discussion valid.

Secondly I have no recollection of having ever been at odds with you previously. In fact most times we've shared common ground in our support of AVB.

Anyway I feel like I'm hijacking this thread now ironically enough so I'll leave it at that.

I wouldn't want Louis van Gaal - it's almost guaranteed to end badly and quickly, leaving Spurs back at square one. Maybe a student of van Gaal would be better choice.

Sherwood has half a season to make the team and job his. With the FA Cup weekends off, he should have plenty of time to get his main ideas across. Hopefully, he is some kind of managerial messiah because I'm not convinced Spurs will have a great selection of 'next level' managers to choose from.

Is it wrong that i'm slightly smirking at City's current 8-0 aggregate score in the League Cup ?

Cricket score anyone ?

Anyway, saw this earlier ..

Quote:
“Three men have been charged with racial aggravation in connection with chanting the word "yid" at two football matches.

Gary Whybrow, 31, of west London, Sam Parsons, 24, of Amersham, and Peter Ditchman, 52, of Bishop's Stortford, were charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words.

The word, meaning Jew, was allegedly used at Tottenham Hotspur matches against FC Sheriff and West Ham United.

The three men are due before Hendon Magistrates' Court on 4 February.”

The Tottenham Supporters trust is working with them on their defence which is good.

On my brief reading, the Prosecution cannot prove "hostility" as required by S28 - if that's correct, a jury cannot convict.

Basically a test case.

The Colombian marching powder ... is more of a problem.

The wining streak continues. However, The next game will not allow the slack and poor periods, which are abundant still to go unpunished. A truer test of attitude and influence by Sherwood since and worryingly, our home games are perhaps our worst actual performances at present. City are not easing up and won't come with any fear or need to feel defensive.

I'm not really going to judge the City game too much. They are the best team in the league, and their away form is clicking now. I just hope we play a DM.

David Baddiel seems to have changed his emphasis a bit on this. (From Newsnight - copied from elsewhere:

Quote:
“"Spurs fans are completely correct to say that they think they do it in a different way to the way that Chelsea fans do it. That is absolutely right, and so therefore all that has to go into the mix, when you’re trying to get to a place, at the end of the day, where anti Semitism is not on the terraces anymore. It is complicated, it is nuance and then you have to think what is the best way round this and I think hopefully it’s all heading in the right direction but there’s some bumps along the way"”

Yes, a good performance would be OK by me, this time.

If Man U get Mata (damn Chelsea - I was sure they wouldn't sell. I know they don't think Man U are a threat this season but it could get them into CL and will improve them for next year, too), they will improve, especially when RVP comes back

Indeed. I mean no disrespect to the United fans, but there seems to be this automatic assumption that just because they're United they'll make the top four. Obviously they may well do, but I don't think it's as a forgone a conclusion as many seem to think.
