Naughton's a strange one. not that good, but definitely not as bad as has been made out. shame for him, and obviously hope he makes a swift and full recovery.

Kaboul and Dier can both fill in at right-back till whenever it is we're bringing in Yedlin, I guess. we've definitely got enough cover at CB to be able to use one or both of them there. maybe we can even give Lennon a go there. there has to be some point to his continued inclusion in proceedings, and his supporters swear blind he's so great defensively (and it's blindingly obvious he's nothing of the sort offensively), so now's his chance I guess.

how ironic that LB was the problem the whole of last season, and no sooner do we fix that than we lose all our RBs. #sospursy

I guess you just had to bring Lennon up straight away after my first post in here for a few months, eh?

Walker could be back training in a month, I read. I should be more enthusiastic about him returning but his form last season, when he was fit, was up and down. At least Naughton is consistent even if he doesn't offer as much as Walker going forward.

Even if Walker is back in a month, it'd still likely take him another month to get fully fit up to Poch's standards. And that's without him having to find his feet and form again as well.

Maybe Lennon IS the answer, since his defensive work is apparently so good !

Was at the game on Sunday - first for some while. Hapy to take all the credit for 3 points.

No idea what went on during the match (Park Lane lower): total drinking time = 10 hours.

Interesting to see piles of rubble around the ground, and the stadium itself looking pretty tired and rusty in places.

Strangely flat, both the game and the crowd. Cracking day out, as ever!

I do think Naughton has improved in his attacking play, but I do actually prefer him defensively to Walker. I'll be glad to have them both back fit though.

It is. Trust me

how on earth did we manage to have three right-backs named Kyle Naughton, Kyle Walker, and Kyle Walker-Peters all at the same time?

You're forgetting the often overlooked 4th RB, Kyle Naughton-Walker

I hear Ryan Fredericks is changing his name to Kyle in order to improve his chances of breaking into the first team!

Interesting. Klaas-Jan (Kyle) Huntelaar allegedly available for around £3m in the new year.

31 years old though, so might not necessarily be a long term investment, but would it be worth it ?

His strike rate suggests that he would be useful to have on the bench in a game at the very least, if not a potential starter if he quicky adapts to the Premiership. We would have to reconcile his signing with our policy of shipping out +30s. Perhaps a Jan '15 transfer window stop gap striker and send Soldado out on loan back to Spain.

If Soldado does move back to Spain which, sadly, seems likely sooner rather than later, I'd tend to agree. Ade also might be off to the African Nations Cup as well so we'd only really be left with Kane as the main striker.

And if the wages are reasonable, £3m wouldn't exactly break the bank, all things considered. I think we're up after the summer transfer dealings anyway.

Some transfer news being reported: Hamburg have taken up the option to sign Holtby permanently for a reported £5m but the money won't be paid until the next window for accounting reasons.

Seems he's been getting good reviews and has started every game although the team is struggling. Levy will be happy having made a £4m profit on him.

Like many, I thought that he had a decent pre-season and seemed to be a dead cert to be in regular contention for a starting place but I guess the writing was on the wall when it was rumoured that our previous coaching team had some serious doubts about him. Have a feeling that he'll end up back in the EPL at some point with Everton.

On the Soldado rumours, apparently we've been scouting Bacca of Sevilla but their President hates Levy so can't see that happening. Huntelaar is too old for Levy and personally think he is not mobile enough for Pochettino. Inter now seem to be interested but at the reported £11m I doubt Levy will even take their call.

Thing is, I think even Levy has to realise that he's never going to get even close to the money he paid for Soldado, so there's going to have to be some compromise somewhere.

I suppose we could end up doing the same with him as chelsea have with torres - loan him out for a couple of years to see if he can re-establish his reputation and form and then try to recoup some of the money then.

on current form, i suppose it really should be harry kane starting as first choice forward rather than anyone else as he's certainly "in the goals", to channel my inner pundit.

Lost 1-5 in the end - ouch! Missing some of the better U18 players who will be in the U21 squad to play Norwich on Tuesday.

Young Spurs Academy prospect, Dominic Ball was a starter at CB for the successful England U20s team earlier today. Although not the most obvious choice of our many Academy prospects for an England call up, he nevertheless acquitted himself well and did justice to his selection.

For us Spurs fans, he's another one to watch out for in the coming seasons.

Talk of us replacing Baldini with Monchi (Ramón Rodríguez Verdejo), who is credited with much of Sevilla's success. He will be leaving Sevilla at the end of the season to seek a new challange and speaks good English by all accounts. As you can imagine, plenty of other clubs are interested in his services as well.
JasonWatkins
14-10-2014
I suppose considering Baldini's record so far, I wouldn't be surprised if he does leave. Obviously Eriksen has probably been the biggest success of 'that' spending spree, with Chadli and Lamela improving rapidly, but none of the signings have really set the world on fire.

Rather worryingly, apparently Lloris has picked up a groin injury that is ruling him out of France's game tonight. We need him more than ever at the weekend so fingers crossed it's nothing major.

Interesting blog post here about Klaas-Jan Huntelaar and why it could be worth going in for him - does make some good points.

Read this morning that apparently Monchi turned down an approach from us in the summer, seems he's got his eyes on going to either Bayern or Barcelona.

In other news, Milos Veljkovic has joined Middlesbrough on a 3 month loan, said the Manager phoned him personally to invite him to go there. Should be good experience for him.

Our U21s will be up against a very strong Norwich side tonight. Our side will be a mix of regular u21s and u19s.

Not unexpectedly the U21s lost 3-1. More a case of boys v men.

Reading that Vertonghen didn't get the captain's arm band after Poch polled the players and found that he wouldn't be a popular choice.
