Two decent goals and a better team performance were the positives. Still thought we gave up far too much possession at times and wasted a few good opportunities up front by bad decision making again. Nevertheless, onwards and upwards.

well the liverpool result has thrown a bit of a spanner in the works i suppose.

they have stoke on the last day, we have everton and southampton are away to man city with 2 points seperating 5th to 7th.

obviously I suppose if ars*nal win the fa cup, it means all of those teams qualify for the EL, but it'll certainly be interesting.

Yes, bugger Liverpool for not putting 5th place out of reach. Means we have to try to beat Everton now!

Our crop of U19s are doing well in their tournament. A few of these are likely to be first team squad members next season, at least for the Euro Cup if we qualify.

True, as I guess 6th and 7th will have to qualify and 5th will go straight to the group stages which will be handy.

This is interesting. Being reported that we've completed the signing of Kevin Wimmer and he'll be unveiled on the 1st of June (which is when, I assume, the transfer window opens)

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/footba...-back-5710007?

I suppose if we're keeping Fazio, it could mean the first choice pairing would be Vertonghen and Wimmer with Dier and Fazio being backups.

If we're still aspiring to top 4, the only thing Fazio is good for is getting cobwebs out the corner.

Another centre back please, Mr Levy.

Kevin Wimmer is a left footer and can also play at left back. He sounds more like a back-up to Jan.

I suppose you have to assume he'll be the first "proper" transfer coming from the new setup with Mitchell and his team so at least he'll have been properly vetted.

Considering our track record with transfers, that in itself is a big deal !

I see the academy team unfortunately lost in the final of the Terborg Tournament in Holland, but credit to them for making it that far though.

I see AVB has led Zenit to the league title in his first full season. Clearly the terrible manager that the UK media said he was

Good for him.

I look back at his time with us, and I still can't see why some were so negative about him. I could least many positives but it's nothing I've not said before.

As for the Hull game, sorry Daws Nice to see Chadli as our second highest scorer outright, and I hope it finishes that way. For all the stick Fazio gets, and I am one who has been critical of Jan, it's another positive result with them at CB together. We've won 9 of the 15 they've played at CB together, losing only 3. We've conceded less with them than without them as a pairing, so I still don't understand why Pochettino changed it. How crap we were with Dier and Jan as a pairing after we dropped Fazio (15 conceded in 7 games) and why he kept persisting with them, just adds to my confusion.

Fifth is still very much on. Liverpool are away to Stoke, which as we know too well is a tough ground, and we have a Lennon-less Everton. We generally do well at Goodison, so let's hope things go our way and we end the season on a high. If we can get fifth, it means we go straight in to the group stages of the Europa League, and our first 5 weeks of the season we can focus solely on the league.

Remember Iago Falque who looked quite promising but was never given first team opportunities by successive managers? He is apparently doing the business over in Serie A, having scored 7 goals in 8 for Genoa.

You know what, that really doesn't surprise me. I remember seeing him in a few pre-season games and thinking he looked decent. I'd have probably given him a chance ahead of Captain Blastalot actually.

BT Sport are showing the two post-season friendlies on the 27th and 30th of May

Quote:
“Wednesday 27 May: Tottenham v Malaysia All-Stars - 1.45pm (BT Sport 1)

Saturday 30 May: Tottenham v Sydney FC - 10.30am (BT Sport 1)”

As it's the Mail, take it as you will but they're reporting that Mitchell is going to be revamping the overseas scouts and also that Baldini will be leaving this summer, likely at t the end of the transfer window.

Baldini's last task is to off-load the unwanted players apparently.

Well hopefully he can do that. I suspect he'll be hampered somewhat by Levy's valuation of the players unless, I suppose, this restructuring of that side of things includes being more flexible with offers and transfer fees to ensure we can move people on easier and bring people in.

This is quite a fun article about ineptitude. Fwiw I think Kyle Walker deserves his own entry but here it is by team:

Not really understanding what the point of that article is but I can't recall an occasion where one of our players has removed their shirt to celebrate scoring?

As I mentioned, I though it was '"fun". So fun would be the point.

Having said that, it has some points to make as well .. It's probably one of those you take what you want from

So the transfer speculation season is well and truly open even if the transfer window isn't yet. Every day there is a different player mentioned in the media, who we are apparently about to sign.

I've never heard of that prolific striker called Owen Goal but apparently he scored a shed load for us!

So, just rounding up our 'imminent' transfers according to the media from the last couple of days:

Ezequiel Lavezzi, Striker, 30 years old, Paris St. Germain - best goal tally for a season 12 - No thanks

Javier Hernandez, Striker, 26 years old, Man U, just finished loan spell at Real Madrid - proven goal scorer if played regularly - Very useful

Lavezzi isn't a striker....

My mistake, he plays mostly on the wing though gets described as a forward.

Apparently we have agreed terms for Yevhen Konoplyanka, the 25 years old winger who plays for Dnipro. He is the guy Liverpool nearly signed in Jan 2014 only for the Dnipro president to pull the transfer at the last moment.
