It would have been awful to have been guzumped by Chelsea again but just consider this for a minute - it looks like we're being gazumped by EVERTON. What's next, losing out on a player to Palace?
I read that 13 of the 20 PL teams have broken their own transfer records in this window. Presumably we're going be paying for the stadium for the next 10 years. At this rate we'll struggle to fill it.”
Agreed. As I said earlier, we arent just standing still, we are going backwards. Combine that with practically every other team strengthening with more quality means that god knows what the season ahead holds.
One of the problems is that we have a chairman who still thinks its 2008 and refuses to accept that time......and transfer fees have moved on. Look at the evidence. Our record signings without the Bale £100 million is Son at £22m. Then its all £15m, £16m, £17m etc. You just cant get true quality that we need in that bracket. Of course, with Levy, his living in 2008 only applies to incoming transfers. When its outgoings he is fully clued up to the "current" market value of a player.
I hope no one is falling for the shpiel of "we will compete with the big boys when we get the new stadium." Arsenal fell for that old chesnut and have'nt come close to the title in the last decade. The only reason Daniel Levy is building a new stadium is to make more money for Daniel Levy.
Zero ambition, which will result in the few quality players we do have, leaving sooner rather then later. People are in for a shock this season when they realise just how much other sides have improved. In the long run last years "freak" of a season, was actually the worst thing that could have happened to us. It simply gave all the other teams the kick up the arse they needed, while we ludicrously try to convince ourselves that everything is fine because of where we finished last year.
