No more soaps! We have enough. What we DO need more of us variety in schedules. Sitcom, drama, 30 minute quizzes.

Totally agree - we are well enough served by soaps.

I agree

But they need continuing drama to drive the schedule.

This is a replacement for Waterloo Road we're talking about remember, not in addition to.

I would like to see a decent serial set in the world of a police station if Waterloo Road is eventually dropped. The Bill is missed and nothing has replaced it.

I wonder if the sad passing of Roger Lloyd Pack puts into doubt the Only Fools sport relief special.

Would not have thought so. Others of the original cast are no longer with us and you could just do a 3 or 4 hander anyway.

It would just be compared to The Bill though wouldnt it? Thinking about it though what about a Z Cars revival?

I think it puts paid to any potential revival of Vicar of Dibley though. It needs Owen, Jim, Frank and David and Hugo to make it what it was. Very sad news about Roger.

Tape-checked soaps:

CS: 7.76m
EE: 6.67m
EM: 6.78m
Does that Corrie rating include +1?

With the sad loss of Roger Lloyd Pack you'd think that any OFAH comeback would be even more of a bad idea

Eldorado comeback is equally horrific.

I guess so. It was never the same when they brought it back in 2001.

Probably not but its tremendously sad news. Roger didn't say much in OFAH but what he did say and how he looked was usually priceless. As such was one of the great sitcom creations.
Very sadly (despite what others think about returning OFAH), the last chance of a true final payoff(which was on the cards apparently) was the untimely death of John Sullivan.
Sadness all round really.

No exc+1. Down 1.1m (12.4%) on the equivalent episode last year.

Inc+1 it just edged over 8m

As he was battling pancreatic cancer, one assumes he isn't in the script.

Terribly sad news though. Agree that it probably puts paid to more Dibley than more OFAH

They've missed the schedule deadline by nearly 24 hrs, for what? Original scheduling was fine, perfect even.

Sunday eviction will be a bit of a novelty though. First time ever there's been a live show on a Sunday since it came to C5.

Yes its poor stuff. Fanbase is everything it seems, City are playing some champagne football at the moment and are the team of the moment. Casual viewers not bothered by that though. ITV might be gutted about the figure (less than Waterloo Road overall) but may be not so much about being dumped from the whole thing.
They are the team of the moment, but it was a dead rubber tie to begin with. Beauty is subjective; City are playing efficiently not fluently.

I doubt neturals would find enjoyment in seeing the would-be champions annihilate a Championship team, no matter how close it was in the first half. But ITV should expect a better figure for when they face Barcelona.

In the FA Cup, casual viewers only seem interested in the traditional triumvirate of United, Liverpool and Arsenal. If all three are out, that'll be mayday for ITV.

I don't understand why C5 keep extending BB (I love it) but the ratings aren't that much bigger, or are they?

Are they only doing it because the press and viewer response has been overwhelmingly positive?

Would the final rate better on a Tuesday or Wednesday? The Sunday eviction should be a surprise (to the housemates) and would boost interest for those last days.

It is bizarre to announce Tuesday, and then change it to Wednesday. It really does make it look like they are making it up as they go along, well they are.

Wednesday is better than a Tuesday though.

My thoughts exactly.

It's performing well but its ratings are nothing remarkable. Desperation on C5's part.

Yes we are. I think a greater variety of returning series are needed to lure viewers back to the main channels.

I guess they assume everyone PVRs and they assume limited EE and GBBO cross over.

Based on last night's absolutely normal numbers for EE and GBBO perhaps they are not such idiots after all...
It was up against Coronation Street on Monday and didn't seem to be an issue for either programme on that occasion too.

Is that live Apollo rating what we can expect for outnumbered, it's not a good sign!
No, because people like Outnumbered, they don't like Live at the Appalling. This series really needs to end now, it's been running ten years this year and it's been useful in showcasing some new talent for BBC1 but it's a tired format and totally unsuitable for primetime consumption. They can carry on doing stand-up on TV but they need a new format or a new venue or something. The same people have been on it too many times and people aren't watching because all the episodes are the same.

And it certainly would have to be in completely different form (including the name). Eldorado is arguably the most panned and derided programme in tv history.
A few weeks back I suggested a new soap on BBC1 was the worst idea ever floated in this thread (the second worst being Brekkie's brilliant regional political programmes in primetime idea) - http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...postcount=5526. I'd now like to suggest that a new soap on BBC1 and that soap being Eldorado knocks that original suggestion into a cocked hat.

Its such a controversial programme its initial audience would be huge. The media had a field day with it so would be interested to see it rebooted and on top form with great writers and cast but I would keep it to just stories on the British ex pats this time! No foriegn language sequences!
But nobody's interested in expats, that was the thing that terminally sank Eldorado and meant it was never going to be a hit. The average viewer doesn't care about people living in Spain, it's totally alien to most people. If they're having a horrible time, who cares? The idea was presumably that it would be nice to watch the hot weather but that just makes it worse, it makes us dislike them and not care about their problems even more. You can argue that Neighbours and Home and Away were also set in nice places with hot weather but that's countered by the fact 99% of the scenes are all set indoors in kitchens and front rooms and could be anywhere.

It's the same idea that lead to Crossroads coming back, and we know how badly that went. You get the name recognition from show one thanks to everyone going Crossroads is back, ha ha ha, but it only has a novelty factor. If it's just a perfectly adequate but totally unexceptional soap, everyone will switch off. The new Crossroads wasn't doing anything the other soaps weren't already and any novelty disappeared after week one when everyone realised it was just going to be a bog standard soap.

I mean, this is not having a go at anyone personally, but Eldorado is the most toxic brand imaginable. You'd be better off bringing back Jim'll Fix It.

The overnights are around 200k higher than CBB11, which could mean that officials could be potentially 200k higher, giving a 3m official. But I think it's not just that, I agree with you... possibly the combination of the great feedback from fans/public as well as increased press coverage?

But I think it's weird to extend that extra day, was there someone big on that Tuesday? Sunday eviction looks like an odd one!

According to the BBC web site it had been hoped he would appear but he was too ill to do so.

Maybe moving CBB again was a reaction to DIP's launch rating. Wednesday is a quieter night so a bigger opportunity for the final to capitalise.

Channel 5
20:00 Gibraltar: Britain in the Sun: 0.99m (4.3%)
Yikes, that ain't good.

Watched this back last night and I think its run its course. It's far too similar to the first series. Even the EPG guide (despite saying new) it's all very repetitive.

Re- Dibley. I always thought the issue was Emma Chambers not wanting to get involved again
