No, because people like Outnumbered, they don't like Live at the Appalling. This series really needs to end now, it's been running ten years this year and it's been useful in showcasing some new talent for BBC1 but it's a tired format and totally unsuitable for primetime consumption. They can carry on doing stand-up on TV but they need a new format or a new venue or something. The same people have been on it too many times and people aren't watching because all the episodes are the same.

A few weeks back I suggested a new soap on BBC1 was the worst idea ever floated in this thread (the second worst being Brekkie's brilliant regional political programmes in primetime idea) - http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...postcount=5526. I'd now like to suggest that a new soap on BBC1 and that soap being Eldorado knocks that original suggestion into a cocked hat.

But nobody's interested in expats, that was the thing that terminally sank Eldorado and meant it was never going to be a hit. The average viewer doesn't care about people living in Spain, it's totally alien to most people. If they're having a horrible time, who cares? The idea was presumably that it would be nice to watch the hot weather but that just makes it worse, it makes us dislike them and not care about their problems even more. You can argue that Neighbours and Home and Away were also set in nice places with hot weather but that's countered by the fact 99% of the scenes are all set indoors in kitchens and front rooms and could be anywhere.

It's the same idea that lead to Crossroads coming back, and we know how badly that went. You get the name recognition from show one thanks to everyone going Crossroads is back, ha ha ha, but it only has a novelty factor. If it's just a perfectly adequate but totally unexceptional soap, everyone will switch off. The new Crossroads wasn't doing anything the other soaps weren't already and any novelty disappeared after week one when everyone realised it was just going to be a bog standard soap.

I mean, this is not having a go at anyone personally, but Eldorado is the most toxic brand imaginable. You'd be better off bringing back Jim'll Fix It.”

If people don't care about people living abroad why were Neighbours and Home and Away such big hits? Thats poppycock. The show failed cos it was a mess. No matter how good a concept if you execute it badly it's done for.

The drama makes you care about the characters whoever they are or wherever they're from, whether it's another country or another planet.

As for Crossroads well it's was out of touch. It never made sense to bring back a show that was so old fashioned in the first place.

Yes, Bleak House was brilliant and the scheduling of it was masterful. It's good news if they're doing something of that nature again.

Repeats of New Tricks could do better than Waterloo Road. I think BBC1 could have a very successful schedule without getting another drama I'm to run for 40 weeks a year to replace WR. Look for more returning drama, comedy and light entertainment instead.

Anything running that long will obviously dilute itself in quality and end up being labelled as a soap (which WR has become)

I'd agree they need to look at other options but it may be a question of £££

ITV should just revive London's Burning and The Bill and be done with it.

actually they really should

Holby kills it on Tuesday because it doesn't have the male/female fight over what to watch at 8pm

Him: I wanna watch The Bill
Her: I wanna watch Holby

*the above is clearly a sexist generalisation of course

I am suprised that they have not already done it. Actually reviveing The Bill might be seen as an admission they got it wrong before but honestly why should that bother them.

Brilliant night for Channel 4
Apart from Mondays, Wednesdays have got to be their strongest night. Great ratings between 8-11...Brilliant for 24Hours though, coming 3rd in the slot

Restoration Man 1.90 Million inc+1
24 Hours in A&E 2.60 Million inc+1
Finding Mum&Dad 1.60 Million inc+1

Meanwhile, they have commissioned an 8 part doc series "Marines"
Should be good

Well it will replace Silent Witness on either Friday or Thursday then. Not sure what will be on the other day though? Maybe an exciting series of Watchdog or "Britain's Bad Weather"

Under 2m including +1 for Channel 4 isn't brilliant in my book. BBC2 has managed to regularly stay above 2m without +1, but for Channel 4 now it's a rarity, and anything above 1.5m now is seemingly brilliant. When did expectations sink so low?

Anything about 1.5 Mill is pretty damm solid... and 2.6 mill at 9 is brilliant!

They usually have a rating under 1 million at 8 or 10 so ya, last night was a pretty damm good night for them

Also, BBC2 gets a bigger audience then 4 anyway..

BBC2 and C4 used to have very similar ratings, but C4 has fallen well behind in recent years. If BBC2 hadn't given up daytime it would be streets ahead.

C4 should really be aiming for 2m + consistently between 8 and 10, and occasionally at 10 too.

Yes, now it does. Didn't used to be that way.

Times change..

Also, 2.6 Mil at 9 is fantastic, and it did beat BBC2 (and Channel 5)

Comming off a terrible summer, and apart from The Flop Taste, Channel 4 are off to a brilliant start to the year.

ITV2 have picked up the rights to DADS..
Its not looking too healthy ratings wise in the US, although with the state of FOX's comedies, you never know really..

Its going to be paired with Mom on Monday nights, so at least they've got a block going

Not the best slot is it? Against CBB, Revenge, etc.

Must be WR's best rating in a long time? Beats some big money ITV drama of the past year with that number.

And this comes after winning its slot last night.
