Thanks for the ratings Mike. I really don't see the point of Stargazing Live Back To Earth. Viewers tune out for it.

Thats because the programs were tripe(EE excepted) - much like ITV on Tuesdays.

Stargazing Live at 90minutes long would perhaps be off-putting, so the show is split to 60+30.

The 30min "extra" programme is thus extra viewers for cheap... But it get's weird since the BBC put this extra programme on directly after the main programme!

This undermines the whole point of splitting the programme. Crazy.

I really like it. And I think it's sensible to not be part of the main show as it's quite different in style and is more of a conversation about an interesting topic. It can be heavier going so I'm not surprised it gets a smaller audience though...

Surprised by that rating! The hour long Wednesday show normally gets much lower figures as there seems to be a 7:30 switch over to Corrie. Impressed it managed to sustain a 21% audience share for the whole thing. Guess the new studio is working for them

Waterloo Road and Live At The Apollo had no appeal for me and it seems most viewers. And when EastEnders stops on Wednesday BBC1 will be in the crap with these two dud shows.

I fairness, Arrow is one of the better shows of it's genre, IMHO, so ratings would probably be better on E4.

On another note Mike, do you see the HD figures for BBC3/CBBC and BBC4/CBBC (although not available everywhere)?

I did wonder if there was a noticeable difference in content between the two which made sense of them being packaged as different shows.

I don't think they're reported separately (unless it's available to people with planning systems).

The only reason we have ITV HD separately is because they choose to have it monitored (I believe). Everybody else wants it bundled in with SD figures.

I tend to agree with Mike on this one. I don't think the show would be doing significantly better on E4 at least not in the final figures. I suspect on E4 it would be pulling stronger over nights and time shifting a little less though.

On the subject of The Tomorrow People. A strong opening for it but I can't for the life of me imagine its going to hold up. Its a pretty poor show. I'm looking forward to seeing how Brooklyn Nine-Nine does for E4 when it starts later this month. Its pretty good (and getting better I think).

Sticking with US television news I've just noticed that The Middle is moving from Sky1 to Comedy Central, when did that happen?

Looking froward to the comedy block tonight. Its so nice having that 8:30pm slot after Emmerdale being used to its full potential, and also 90minutes of comedy on ITV. No matter which channel 90minutes of comedy (that is worth watching) is always a good thing, so hopefully tonight ratings remain stable. I imagine ITv will see how tonight rates for BOAF then commission a second series shortly after.

I can see it holding over 7million with Benidorm over 6m tonight.

Reece Shearsmith and Sheridan Smith in The Widower

ITV has announced a three part factual drama, The Widower, from ITV Studios based on the crimes of convicted murderer, Malcolm Webster.

Although its good their commissioning more drama, I can't help but think they should be looking at potential series, not one-offs which don't usually rate well. The dramas of the future need to be found, BBC1 has a whole raft of new coming up, ITV has a couple.

TTP has surprised me on US pace. I am all caught up on it. It starts slow, the first 3 episodes are quite slow, but from Episode 4 onwards is when it kicks off and have been extremely hooked. I can't wait for it to return next week as it ended on a cliffhanger.

The Big Bang Theory and New Girl have already started, just waiting for TTP, TVD, Arrow, The Originals, 2 Broke Girls and Mom!

BBC1 had a shocker after EastEnders finished. Waterloo Road will tank, the inevitable is just being delayed.

Popular short serials can do well if engaging and scheduled well as The 7.39 showed. They can sit alongside returning hits. ITV still has a few like Scott & Bailey, Downton and now Broadchurch.

I was greatly disappointed mainly because I thought it had (potentially still has) a degree of promise. The execution just hasn't been especially good. Although I'll admit that I threw in the towel around episode 5 or 6 so it may have improved since. I just didn't have the time or patience to wait and see if it ever got its act together.

They can also be quite useful in developing relationships with writers, actors and producers that can prove helpful. And they can help to establish names and pedigree for the future as well. In theory they also allow you to break out of your comfort zone and little and test the water on new ideas and different genres with relatively low risk (although ITV never seems that keen on this).

The point I was trying to make was that it's probably the best of the newish genre shows, so should rate better, wherever it was shown.

Agree on BNN, very funny show.

Sorry, but what did EE used to average during its last good spell? I keep seeing it average 6-7 million at the moment, but peaking at 8. What was its norm for average and peak? Many thanks

Tomorrow People did well for E4 but it was awful, and looks like it will get cancelled after season 1

Well back in 2010 it was neck and neck with Corrie on first showings but the BBC Three repeat (at 10pm then) used to regularly get 1m+ as well.

Presumably Apollo was only on to fill the half hour gap to the news. It will go when WR returns to 8pm.

They'd have been better off putting a 30 year old OFAH out!
