Ah that's okay man!

There's a part of me that thinks we could see a really high rating tomorrow. But I reckon the ratings will be 9.5 million for episode 1 and 10.7 million for episode 2.

We shall see tomorrow!

Yes you'll find no further denying of their significance in this corner matey, the unexpectedly high (from my point of view) volume of tweets both negative and positive about Corrie tonight has been enough to distract me from my film to enter into a discussion about revised thoughts of how high the episodes might come in in the morning. For what it's worth I can now definitely see the second episode rating in at least the low 10's. It's just that a particularly lengthy discussion on the merits or otherwise of a programme, and how people felt having already tuned in, is surely very little to do with how the episodes actually rated. Unless of course you're taking the angle of a possible sustained bump for the next few episodes of Corrie (which nobody is). That's all I have to say on the matter.

I'm fairly sure though that it would have risen through the episode like last week, but peaked lower.”

No need to say sorry ronant you do more then enough, thanks anyways

Aside from a couple of niggles those CS episodes were just lovely and I hope they rate accordingly tomorrow. As has been said the content doesn't really suit the term 'event TV', but it was 'a very Corrie' sort of event. A beautiful farewell to a loveable soap icon. For at least the second episode I expect/hope for an even slightly above 10m rating.

Get the feeling we will see some impressive numbers tomorrow.

They certainly deserve over 10m, I didn't watch but I haven't watched corrie properly since the 70's so it would have been strange for me to just watch someone die.

But it's certainly struck a chord with a sizable chunk of the nation and that deserves something special in my opinion.

And hey EastEnders might just pick up a few 100k as well!

I thought the episodes were really good, sad and emotional, only a couple of un-needed scenes. I would have also had silent credits. Overall its an end of an era and Hayley will be missed, both actors should see awards swinging their way. I don't think it will reach the high rating's Corrie had for Becky's exit, but will just touch 10million. The weakened state of the soap from Stuart Blackburn has seen to that, but I hope he doesn't stay too long.

Tonights EastEnders had a very poignant, and realistic scene where Bianca caved in and told Whitney about Carols breast cancer. The responses between Bianca and Whitney were spot on. Trouble is, with cancer dominating Corrie and also EastEnders, could it be ill judged by EE to have this cancer story running now rather than wait a few months? People might consider it "too much" tonight.

I didn't think you watched EE? I didn't even know you were a soap viewer. What made you watch EE and not Corrie?

I don't think I've ever said I didn't watch EastEnders. I have said I didn't watch it for several months because it was crap, but I have been watching it since Christmas and it is back on form.

Why EastEnders and not Corrie? Well, it's nothing to do with it being on ITV. Me and my other half had an almighty argument a few years ago because I was sick and tired of my other half watching Home and Away, Neighbours, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Corrie and EastEnders every night of the week. It was too much. I was sick of the same formula day in and day out. So I flipped. I said "You can watch either Emmerdale or Corrie but not both. And you can choose between Hollyoaks and EastEnders and not both". Emmerdale and EastEnders won. It is soul destroying just having never ending soap on, one after the other. So, it was my other half who decided what soaps we watch and since that day we've not watched Corrie, nor do we miss it, or the other soaps that were dumped!

I know you didn't ask me but my reason is because as a boy my mum watched corrie and whenever I head that drone of the theme tune, not only wast it time to go to bed but it was that really boring slow moving show with the funny accents coming on. I hated it as a kid.

As I got older I found it rather outdated and silly but when EE came along me and my now wife were blown away and was hooked, it helped that the setting was closer to home as well. My mum even abandoned corrie and switched to EE.

Thats obviously totally not fair on Corrie, but thats why!

Boring story over.

I'm rubbish at predicting ratings. Let's wait and see what Corrie gets. Whatever it gets it won't takeaway from the quality of the acting.

Soap stars are often dismissed as "soap stars" and are hardly given any credit for being actors. Yet often, some of the best acting on telly is in a soap opera.

Stuart Blackburn has been trying to reduce expectations today by saying the ratings dont matter: http://metro.co.uk/2014/01/19/corona...tings-4268815/

How very true. Bill Treacher as Arthur Fowler having a nervous breakdown is still one of the most affecting things I've seen on TV.

The scene of Carol Jackson walking numbingly through a silent square after being told of Billy's death has haunted me ever since. She was absolutely breath taking in that scene. It reminded me 100% of the way I reacted when I was told of my mums death whilst I was at work. She was only 54.

A quarter of a million kettles were boiled tonight as Coronation Street came to an end. Sounds like a lot but it is almost half the number of kettles boiled compared to when Eastenders climaxed in 2009 with the death of Danielle Mitchell [10.6million].

Kids before overnights we went by power surges to estimate ratings before the consolidated ones came out. Haven't seen a kettle boiling figure in ages!

Just like the good old days!

For comparison purposes, here are the overnight ratings for the exits of some well known Coro characters in the last few years:

2006- Mike Baldwin: 11.8m
2006- Fred Elliot: 11.0m
2007- Tracey Barlow: 11.8m
2008- Vera Duckworth: 12.4m (51%)
2010- Jack Duckworth: 11.64m (44%)
2012- Becky MacDonald's: 11.51m (44.2%)

Let's see how Hayley Cropper rates compared to these exits.

Sad news everyone - one of the Ratings Thread's finest (and the second member to ever post here back in December 2006):

@sykesbob: Posted for the very last time today on @digitalspyforum - banalities, overzealous mods & idiot posters out to get you. Enough is enough.

It's a shame. Looks like hes been banned after he made comments about Coro's Bill Roache, which offended some people.

This thread won't be the same without him. Very sad. Wonder what the straw was that broke the camels back.
