Why do some folk who don't get through get treble the airtime of those that do? If it's the Voice why spend time showing us people who weren't good enough. Chicken Guy for example had yonks of time.

Argghhhh!!! Not Chicken Guy again! Yes, there was a black female singer who sounded great, who got selected by Tom who we only saw for 30 seconds. How the hell are we going to be expected to vote for them in the lives if we don't even know who they are? And, as you say, this pillock who though he was magnificent and hilarious was given 14 minutes of airtime and he didn't get through. So, are meant to be investing our support in the losers or are we meant to be trying to find a star? This is why I get annoyed with The Voice. I don't think it actually knows what it's meant to be about.

The BBC means BBC1/2/3/4. 2,3 and 4 provide lots of niche psb programmes. BBC1 is there to make mainstream populist programming. Looking at last nights ratings, they certainly achieved that yesterday. Ratings and quality are the most important thing for bbc1.

I haven't found this series of Take Me Out that interesting since they got rid of TMO:The Gossip and so can't really get to know more about the girls and guys.

The whole 'Secret Woman' thing doesn't work at all either - you could at least give them more to go on to make a decision than just the voice.

It's not a bait. It's the truth. Ratings are the most important thing for bbc1, on a par with high quality. If ratings weren't the most important thing, bbc1 wouldn't have got rid of the low rating kids block, bbc1 wouldn't have shifted Reflex earlier, wouldn't have cancelled low rating ripper street and other low rating but critically well liked dramas. Bbc1 wouldn't have taken bbc2s most popular shows including GBBO, apprentice, wdytya to maximise share for bbc1. Viewing figures are of primary importance to bbc1 as it is the mainstream, most populist channel.

The BBC has changed I agree, and each channel had its own demographics which they do very well. But the point of populist programming at the BBC is to lure people towards the informative and educating elements of the corporation.

I think it's quite a sad story when you say commercial channels would stick with lower rating programmes and that the BBC would move them for ratings purposes.

So based on that, ITV should have an easy run .
But what do they do ? Give us trashy TV progs like Splash and Take Me Out which of course bomb.
A load of C list celebs trying to dive and a bunch of girls trying to become TV stars.
They are not inspired TV progs.

It's the truth though isn't it. In the last few years when ITV has had major rating flops like Food Glorious Food, The Americans, You cannot be serious, Primeval, the Prisoner etc, they've stuck with them in the same slot for the whole series. When BBC1 has ratings tankers like Reflex, Outcasts, Don't Scare the Hare, Hammonds Secret service - they've been moved from their slots fairly swiftly.

And u wonder why posters are defecting to ither forums with all the petty squabling

I think Rising Star could kill the Reality Singing Competition as we know it, especially in a slot with one already in and shows ITV have more or less run out of ideas if they have singing based shows taking up more or less all the big Saturday Slots (with the exception of Takeaway) Are people really going to watch X Factor, then The Voice or Rising Star (Or both) then BGT which generally packs in loads of singers and then be ready to settle down for XF again at the end of summer, it's just overkill-At least the BBC are trying things with the two MacIntyre things and Rob Brydon's celebrities, Tumble etc... While they might not be the most original, at least they're not ANOTHER singing show-(As much as I like the Voice)

I wouldn't agree that it's sexist. I just can't see 30 single men turning their lights out as often as the girls do on the show.

I'd personally like to see a special episode for lesbian/gay people looking for love. There hasn't been a show catering to people with a different sexual preference, and I think it's the type of format that would suit it brilliantly.

I think the only way Rising Star might work without damaging Itv's other formats is if they strip it across one to two weeks. So when they air it, they still show 13 or so episodes they would've anyway, but get it all done and dusted quite quickly. Having 4 months of TXF, followed by 3months of Rising Star, then 2 months of BGT all one after the other would be way too much singing overload for the channel in such a short space of time.

When did C4 move tonight's The Jump premiere to 8pm? I'm sure the first episode was airing at 9pm the last time I checked with subsequent episodes at 8pm.

Tough slot in theory against another zeleb show in Dancing on Ice and Call the Midwife busy crowd pleasing on BBC One.

Indeed. I am always baffled by people who only contribute to the thread to say it is being ruined by bickering and such like. The majority of us have been contributing on here since 2006/2007 yet have somehow learned to rise above the bickering. And, in a way, perverse as it may seem, the passions, the bickerings, the biases and so on, have always been a big part of what the thread is. I wouldn't want any of the current posters to leave. All their views and opinions are what is important to them. Without them and their eccentricities, their biases, their entertaining banter, this thread will be a boring and meaningless thread indeed.

It's funny that each and every Sunday, this subject gets brought up!

With the same tired arguments. Only the begining of the month everyone was talking about a seperate thread and to be nicer to other posters ... doesn't take long to fall back does it. I rarely post in here. I just come on here to check out ratings.
