Indeed, I made a similar point earlier. Assuming it continues its pretty stable trajectory or rises, the year-on-year comparisons will look a lot healthier later in the year, as it fell quite sharply through most of 2013. So the fact that it was down in January (including all out-of-slot and clash-affected episodes) by not much more than Corrie is encouraging in that context. The only way is up.

I wouldn't be at all surprised. I have the feeling they'd be happy to continue with Torvil and Dean but the ratings are still adequate considering the opposition to try another series, possibly in a different slot.


Splash! hasn't been in freefall, has not shown signs of going below 3m (until now) and The Voice is not 'increasingly popular' - so about as accurate an article as ever!

I love that according to this article Splash faces the chop, with the only reason given being its falling ratings, but DOI might stay, despite its own falling ratings.

I can't even decide where to begin with this statement. Why don't we start with the fact DOI is bringing in nowhere near seven million viewers, and then come on to how there are genres of TV other than celebrity reality later..

I'd still argue that Dancing on Ice could do a job for ITV - on BBC One's strongest night of the week the main show is holding up at nearly 6m. Yes it's down but, like The Voice, an easier slot would help. I think even being against The Voice would help as it skews young whereas Ice skews older. At the moment it's against an older skewing show which isn't helping.

I can't see any reason to keep Dancing on Ice in Q1.

ITV can and should be doing better during the first part of the year than they currently are. If they were going to consider keeping Dancing on Ice around (and I honestly don't think they should) then I'd suggest the best place for it might very well be over the summer where they have literally nothing of any value airing between Talent and The X Factor. An established show with a (in theory) established audience might also help them avoid complete collapse over the summer as well. That would then free them up to try and expose new formats to a bigger potential audience during Q1.

The whole thing seems rather pointless though since I can't believe that ITV are giving any serious consideration to another series of Dancing on Ice especially not after they already brought in Rising Star to replace it next year.

I doubt Stan and Doris even exist probably a figment of his imagination.

Finished watching The Voice and I wasn't overly impressed. The last contestant was good, but the rest how can I put this were "Karaoke class" at best.

Tom Jones is good though there is nothing fake about him, unlike the others who just play up to the cameras.

Always thought it was very possible to continue DOI without T&D because they dont contribute that much in front of camera do they? The only thing they do that someone else couldnt would be their very occassional routines. Other coaches and experts could be brought in - whether it would be successful ratings wise would be open to question though.

But if ITV keep DOI and put Rising Star on in Q1 they would be going down the route of reality almost all year round and I cant help but feel they will start to kill the golden goose.

Big number for The Voice!

No point in bringing DOI back, its ratings certainly are in free fall. If it continued next year I am in no doubt it would have droppeed another 0.5-1m viewers. Only resort to this is there ius virtually nothing else.

The 2014 #6Nations got under way with Wales v Italy averaging 3.33m/27.2% (peak 4.35m) and France-England drawing 5.91m/32.1% (peak 8.15m).

Terrific peak for the rugby for what was a poor match in my opinion.

#Splash! held steady last night with 3.75m/16.5%, ITV's most watched show of the day. Take Me Out lost 500k as it fell to 3.45m/15.3%.

Solid and consistent for Splash.

Actually I am not surprised with the boost in TV's figures, as I know a few people who have been watching The Voice this year who didn't bother before.

Its tonight's figures that will be more worrying for me, as I hope The Musketeers figures stabilise as its one show I really want to see another series of...

In only watching DOI still because it's the last series. If it came back I have no doubt ratings would keep dropping.

I expected The Voice to rise but not by that much. Great rating.

Fantastic rating for The Voice last night, this must give the producers some hope that they can reverse the trend of dramatic declines once the audition phase is over.

Splash also did OK last night and I have to admit I thought it would fall lower than it has. Very disappointing rating for Take Me Out on the other hand, a couple if weeks ago this was ITV's top rating show on a Saturday- are viewers tiring of the format?

the routines are just so boring now I don't think some new faces would be enough to save the format think you are spot on it would just keeping falling in Ratings.

I'm pleased for the voice, I actually like the changes this year, I see it as an hour or so of entertainment rather than the next attempt to find a big star, the show feels relaxed and without structure, which I like!

That's not too bad for Splash but surely its days are numbered especially in January. Move it to summer next year or get rid, it's a very limited format they can't possibly get several series out of.

DOI returning would be no shock - the original article when it was axed stated there could be plans to do other things with it or ice skating. Would love it to be true, a full refresh would be great with people bringing in fresh routines and weeks that have a purpose to them. A new slot would be required though and if ratings expectations were around 5 or 6 million it could work.

Consistent for Splash, not quite the free fall certain people were predicting. I can see a third series happening - the calibre of celebs can't exactly be breaking the bank in terms of appearance fees, and the judges can't be too pricey. I'm not sure how these things work, but it seems to be doing an okay job up against the voice. What else would replace it? Movie repeats?
