In a surprise to nobody. The X Factor needs Simon. Will ratings get a boost? Probably. Will it beat Strictly? Now there's a question.

at Pound Shop Wars - a big rating for a normally tricky slot. Not far behind its Emmerdale opposition. A nice soap lead for EastEnders over both Emmerdales. Presumably, that'll be the final drop for Feather now?

I'm not sure how many more times they're going to confirm this, but it was confirmed in Radio Times six weeks ago.

CTM:

Thanks for this

Excluding adverts Mr Selfridge looks stable. However Musketeers looks to have lost viewers as it was broadcast on Sunday. I suspect it may drop again - potentially below 5million which would be a shame. I fear this could go the same way as Ripper Street i the BBC keep it from a CTM lead in next year.”

Breakdowns are brilliant to look at but be careful about using them to accurately predict next week's ratings for any shows. It could go either way.

CTM- always has brilliant breakdowns- the audience consistently increases throughout the hour (I think for the s3 premiere ep it increased by 1m across the hour). Yet, despite the stellar breakdowns, it has lost around 0.7m viewers from 9.6 to 8.9m viewers but still pulling mega ratings. So who cares?

Musketeers- on one hand it fell from 6.2 to 5.1m viewers but then it was practically stable in the last three quarters after the CTM inflated figure. But in no way does it guarantee that there won't be another large drop this sunday.

Selfridges- the same thing really. It has had pretty stable breakdowns in the past three eps but has shed a lot of viewers from the first series. In fact, it seems to be on a similar path that ripper s2 took.... but then again it could stabilise?

Has anyone actually been watching mr selfridge (I have and imo s1 was better).

Furthermore, The Mentalist will also return from its mid-season break on Tuesday 25th February.”

Took them long enough, guessing it'll go to Saturdays, there is four seasons so they don't have to worry about catching up with new episodes on Sky1.

Any film premieres? It's odd that neither Channel 4 or 5 have show a film premiere for weeks.

FOX bought NCIS a long time ago and I think they have life rights hence why Channel 5 couldn't show first run episodes, Channel 5 bought the second run rights to run on Saturdays where it did decently before moving to Fridays where it took off then moving it to Wednesdays.

Thanks DMN.

That's a hell of a jump for Silent Witness. Birds Of A Feather still doing well, never mind Samuel.

I was thinking Saturdays as well.

Only film premiere I can see is kids film Alpha and Omega [2010, Lionsgate].

Surprised they didn't hold that particular piece of news back until the start of Britain's Got Talent live week. Not a surprise in the slightest though; not with the American version almost finished.

As for last night's figures I'm slightly disappointed at the Pound Shop Wars figure - especially when compared to Birds, Benidorm and Gently. If Spy in the Pod and Hidden Kingdoms had pulled in that kind of figure I'd understand but... Oh dear.

Think the Winter Olympics opening ceremony might do ok, its not been the most thrilling so far (with a technical cock-up when forming the Olympic Rings!) but I think people will tune in out of curiosity as they get in from work.

Surely if BOAF is not worth another series to ITV at 5.3 m then neither is George Gently to BBC at a similar figure?

The reality is that both attracted a similar audience so split one another's results a bit.

Quite obviously both will be coming back to their respective channels if the casts all want to do more.

End of argument really.

Yes Series 1 was better but I am still enjoying Series 2. The quality of the production in superb.

Thanks DMN

If Benidorm was as good as series 5 I am pretty sure it would be giving Silent Witness a bit more competition. Great ratings for Birds, SW once again.

I'm guessing Michael J Fox isn't the draw he once was, shame really but NBC did commit to 22 episodes without a pilot. I'm guessing they'll burn off the rest of the episodes in the summer or just pay Sony the difference.

Him alone won't bring the viewing figures back up to Strictly levels, but if they manage to get someone like Danni Minoque, Cheryl Cole etc back on the panel then definitely could see a big upswing in the ratings.

Despite many on here saying they don't like Simon Cowell you can't deny that his return will be a big influence in the media and perhaps public interest. The poll on Digital Spy is 70% positive to his return.

I would think TXF will struggle to get 10m overnights....

“On BBC One, Pound Shop Wars was top overall without taking +1 ratings into account, appealing to 5.42m (23.7%) at 8pm, followed by a new series of Inspector George Gently with 5.34m (22.6%) at 8.30pm”

Incredible rating there at 8.00pm - not sure of the PSB quality, but almost a 1/4 audience share....

So do we think Jonathan Creek will be shown on Mondays or Fridays then? I've just looked on the BBC Press office and its day and time is still to be confirmed.

I'm hoping it airs on Fridays at 9pm. It's very much a weekend type of show and would suit Fridays, as it's very comic and light. It would be out of place on Mondays, and would also face DCI Banks.

I see no problem with it airing on Fridays - Silent Witness performed very well there, staying above 5m and it timeshifted two million. So I don't see why a comedy drama wouldn't do well there too. I can see Creek getting mid 5s in that slot and getting a similar timeshift to Silent Witness. Also as a rough guess, I think Creek would face new comedy drama 'Edge of Heaven' on ITV in that slot.

Edge of Heaven is a brand new show and a bit of a risk for ITV, as it's more known for crime drama and period drama rather than comedy drama these days. And it would face an established show in Creek, so I can see Edge of Heaven not being a threat to Creek at all. I think DCI Banks would be the bigger threat on Mondays.

The quality of the production was superb for Ripper Street as well but ultimately did not do it any good.

Thats if NCIS:NO gets picked up to series...
They had NCIS:RED last year and passed on it.

Last nights Hotel Inspector looks very low... was that not new? Running out of steam perhaps

it was new, but the repeats are so frequent people may have missed it, and it was up against Benidorm, Tough Young Teachers & The Big Renuion, all 3 probably share an audience.
