Well, Splash just finished and no one said "See you again next year."

The Voice started just as the football finished so benefited from post match analysis and a Pointless lead in which will hardly be weak. Plus Splash! dived below 3m last week. Considering these factors I see no reason why it won't hit 8m; indeed it ought to.

Why would people tune into Splash! for the last 20 minutes if they haven't followed the main event? It deserves to get 4m, in my opinion, as I thought it was entertaining tonight but I highly doubt it will manage it.

I hope ITV give it another go as at least it's something different from singing but considering the figures I highly doubt they will.

I was looking at the listings and they said they overlapped. I didn't watch the football so didn't no what time it actually finished. My mistake.

Was very little chance of Splash returning next year anyway, with Tom's diving ready for the Olympics 2016. I suspect if it did well again say over 5million it would return, but with it having dropped below 3million is it very unlikely to return.

For its all faults and slagging off, its actually better than any of the recent BBC LE programmes they have tried, by which BBC1 have been inspired to create Lets Get Ready To Tumble.

That's probably the only 'disappointing' figure from the entire Games. Would be surprised if the Closing Ceremony didn't get at least 150% of that.

Swansea are Welsh!! (I know, pedantic, but you wouldn't dare go around Swansea claiming you're enjoying your visit to Enaland). ITV have a history of putting the knockout stages of the Europa League on ITV1 when the ties involve British clubs, I don't for the life of me understand why people have decided to be so surprised they've done it again this year. Perhaps folks are assuming they only did it last year because it was Chelsea not because it was just generally high-profile content.

Barely. If the difference is the same as it was between the able-bodied and less-able-bodies Games of London 2012 the Paralympics won't rate much better than C4's ordinary content, possibly even slightly worse.

Or, god forbid, they could come up with something original!!

Let's Get Ready To Tumble sounds much more promising than Splash on paper. It will involve some of Britain's biggest stars competing in a range of different grueling gymnastic disciplines, under the expert guidance of Olympic medalists Louie Smith and Beth Tweddle. Production values will be high, as expected for live BBC events, and we will see longer than 5 seconds of diving which is witnessed on Splash. The BBC will also use the fact it will be airing on the same nights as Britain's Got Talent as leverage to gain press coverage and interest among social media. Tumble will definitely rate better than this series of Splash up against Itv competition in the form of Amazing Greys/The Cube and will surprise a few on here.

Is that all that matters? Splash is complete and utter drivel, just because it happens to be better than 'Don't Scare The Hare' which is usually thought of as the worst programme in the history of all television doesn't mean it should win awards.

Exactly. It's like saying a sprinter did well to come 7th in a race because he beat the person who came 8th. Splash is utter drivel and completely collapsed this series up against some decent competition. A lot of us did say last year it only rated well due to the extremely weak opposition. Even up against a cheap celebrity edition of Pointless a month ago, it got beat by over a million.

The Voice isnt drivel among the eyes of millions of viewers. Last series averaged an impressive 7.5million. This series is consolidating to almost 9million viewers, the biggest Q1 entertainment hit the BBC has had since the last Millenium. It is a major force in the ratings and also the critics are much more positive about this series too. I know it is quite frustrating for some XF/Cowell/Itv fans to see The Voice doing so well right now, but it is the truth. The Voice has found its stride this series [next week onwards though, will be interesting to see if it hits the 6m+ target against the ratings-favourite SNT].

All the chat here and we rarely think about budgets and income. That's why the reality of being a commissioner/controller is very different.

At a rough guess though ITV were looking to put around £200m towards Champions League coverage, so even halving that gives them £100m to spend over three years, so £33m a week. That should be enough I'd have thought to add a 9pm drama to the Tuesday night schedule for a good chunk of the year, so hopefully they'll spend it wisely and losing the Champions League will be seen as an opportunity rather than a problem.



Probably not as coverage will only really be in the mornings as C4 will have the Cheltenham Festival in the afternoons. The afternoon schedule doesn't consist of much more than a curling match and a match or two of Ice Hockey, so they won't be missing much.

Anyway I was talking about The Muppets programme, Reflex, Britain's Brightest, Secret Service, etc. in regards to recent BBC LE programmes

I dont call 7m+ rating Itv programmes 'complete and utter drivel' like what Last Request said though. I wont deny Ive criticised XF which does get 7m+ but havent called it utter drivel.

Blimey I said one positive thing about Splash! and war seems to have broken out on the thread.

You used words along those lines, and still criticized programmes on ITV that do get good ratings. The Voice is not utter drivel, but is the 2nd best singing show.

But you do (every single time) yet you don't when people criticise the BBC. There are a lot of hypocrites in this thread.

I dont think XFactor is drivel. I just think it is a highly manipulated programme. I've posted long lists before of how incredibly manipulated the show is. I know all entertainment shows have to be stage managed to some extent, indeed the Voice is, but The XFactor just takes it all to another level. And that kind of producer-intervention/manipulation is one of the key reasons why XFactor lost over 4million viewers in 3 years.

Yes, statistically XF 2013 may be rating about 0.3m better than Voice 2014 or something very small like that. But the Voice's momentum is good, nicely up from last year, where as XF continued its downward decline [down from a 2012 series which was a terrible rating one by its own standards]. The Voice's success is also good news for the BBC because it saturates the singing show market even more and will hopefully mean some viewers are bored of the genre by the time XF returns, which will result in XF continuing to lose viewers and then Rising Star launching underwhelmingly.
