Desperate times call for desperate measures. It's going to be battered in the ratings tomorrow . Hopefully the Voice kills it off once and for all.

If Twitter is anything to go by #TheVoiceUK is spanking Splash tonight. Expect to see Tom Daley in Kylie's gold hot pants next Saturday.

Is Tom Daley not wearing many clothes a draw? Isn't that just his usual state?

I don't think they do the right running order for The Voice, the guy at the start should have been down the list imo. The latest girl is great tv.

Just to add some levity to The Voice discussion. I still think these 90 minute slots are too long and that it could do with a tighter edit. Lots of filler and dead air. Still even with that this is the best episode of The Voice the BBC have produced to date. Maybe not the highest bar to clear though.

I agree. 60 minutes is enough for this show.

But by having 90mins of the Voice, it boosts BBC1's peak time share even more than a 60min episode would. The ultimate aim is to give BBC1 total Saturday night domination. Having it 90mins long gives the channel the best chance of domination.

Yes, yes we've established that as long as its a BBC show quality doesn't enter the equation. Its all about the ratings.

The Voice was greaat to start off with but there's something about it that's annoying me now. I think it drags a little too much, they need to cut back on the pointless judge chats between auditions and pick up the pace a bit. Loving Kylie though and Ricky is a decent replacement for Danny.

Should be good for well over 8m tomorrow, with Splash around 4m I suppose.

ETA: AlexiR got there before me!

The quality of this episode is great anyway. Everyone on twitter is saying it is its best ever episode, that Kylie and the others have rejuvinated it. This is going to be a big hit series for BBC1, 90mins is a good length in terms of balance.

The quality isn't great. Its very good and much improved but its not great. Again far too much filler and the show desperately still needs a tighter edit but those problems are never going to be fixed when the BBC continues to insist on 90 minute slots apparently in the name of nightly share.

Pleasantly surprised by the Voice.

No longer feels like your old auntie pretending to like the latest bands. Feels more current. Still a middle class XF feel but they've dropped all that tone, licks and other jargon. It's less BBC... More fun

Jones still should have left but otherwise great working panel

I don't give a toss who wins, who picks who. I'm watching it solely as entertainment and a judges battle and you know what. It works

The X Factor's launch show was 62 minutes exc. adverts - The Voice doesn't need more than that. Like every episode thus far I've found myself looking at the clock waiting for it to end. It doesn't need to be on for more than an hour for the blind auditions.

Agreed, it's 10 minutes shorter from next week but could do with being no more than an hour. I don't think Samuel's reasons and BBC's reasons for the 90 minute slot are the same though, unsurprisingly, I think it's just because they've got nothing else to put on, a sixty minute show would leave them with a gap that probably could only be filled by a comedy repeat.

Voice feels rejuvenated. Kylie has been a stellar addition.

I disagree. I watched the auditions of series 1 and the quality on this evenings edition is superb. But it's all a matter of opinion though.

Kylie is absolutely stealing the show. What a fantastic signing.

Pacing is definitely an issue though. Ten minutes per contestant is ridiculous.

That is sad Samuel, those who question why Sameul gets a hard time, it posts like this.

Certainly relative to previous years but taken on its own merits I don't think its quite as good as is being suggested. This first episode could easily have been edited down to an excellent 60-70 minutes though.

Fantastic start to Voice loved it. Agree it could do with being a little shorter but never the less it was great fun and am loving the new judges Kylie especially.

I don't get that. If it wasn't good people would say. The fact most seemed to have enjoyed is a good thing.

So much is to do with usually in January there is nothing on BBC1 to watch on Saturday nights! All of a sudden, as if they've got a controller with common sense, Saturday night in January is buzzing! Reflex was watchable, fairly decent teatime entertainment and then a much improved The Voice. Kylie is just wonderful and so adorable! I sort of agree with you with regards to the timing, perhaps it was 15 minutes too long, but considering last year after twenty minutes watching show 1, I switched off and didn't bother with it at all after that, this year it seems so much more entertainment. I hope it does well.
