Not a stellar launch but it certainly could have been much worse. To be honest I'm not sure why they're moving it from this slot. NCIS: LA has to cut the cord and move away from the mothership at some point and in theory an established show probably stands a better chance in that Monday 10PM slot. I can't help but think they're going to move Intelligence to its death in that slot. It'll have a poor lead-in and face pretty difficult competition. Although I suppose CBS is hoping that The Blacklist stumbles badly with no Voice lead-in next week.

I predict

Musketeers 6.8m (could even get CTM sized ratings 8m+ with a strong 16-34 demo)
Selfridge 6.2m inc+1

And comedy, i think no matter which channel the comedy is on, we should all be happy to see an increase it the genre. For too long its been lacking from our TV screens and so an increase is certainly a step up. Since BOAF laucnched so well, if it hold up ITV can lauch new comedy after it next year with a comedy audience already there.”

You're a brave man trying to make a prediction on this interesting drama clash! I think The musketeers will be around 7.2m with Mr. Selfridge at around 5.6m.

Did Mr. Selfridge consolidate well last year?

Also,

Killer Woman is DOA on abc...
SO don't expect to see it appearing on a channel over here

I just get peeved when people make out that IAC is such a high quality production with so much effort going into it! If it's number 1, it's number 1. The sun will rise tomorrow, Tesco's will still be open. But, the BBC allowed it to be number 1 by putting (in the words of Samuel) a niche documentary series on at the same time. I want shows to get to number 1 because they deserve it. OK, lots of people watched IAC. But when decent opposition was on the ratings dropped right down to the 8m's. In that respect I think, as popular as IAC was, it didn't deserve to be number one. I would much rather Broadchurch, Downton or Doctor Who be number one. There really is effort put into those shows. Or, even BGT which commands and receives a consistent rating throughout its run. I don't take sides, I do generally lean towards the BBC, but my anger is aimed at the fact the jungle show won by default and not because it had something credible to beat. If it had beaten something substantial, then fair play. I would accept it. But it didn't.

And, I'm not falling out with you. You have to accept ITV will be criticised as much as I accept the BBC will. Learn to stop taking it personally.”

Fair enough. The fireworks arn't particularly threatend by much competition anyway. A lot of programmes get higher ratings due to weak opposition, doesn't mean they don't deserve it.

Quite a few BBC programmes experience that, escpecially when ITV is weak (i.e. Tuesday's), but thats ITV's fault and not the BBC problem, and ditto in reverse.

BIB I don't think you can say that when you've just written this.

In other news reality super producer John De Mol debuted his latest offering in Holland this week and it got off to an impressive start. Utopia is a social experiment series in the vein of Big Brother in which a group of 15 'inhabitants' are isolated from the rest of the world and given the chance to create their own perfect society. In the Dutch version they've been given a barn, some undeveloped land, cash, electricity, water and some farmyard animals what they do with it all is up to them. There's also a system of eliminations and new 'inhabitants' entering the show. Presumably given De Mol's history it won't be long before Utopia launches globally (apparently US networks are already sniffing around)

The first two episodes were around 9m but then the rest settled at a consisitent ~7.5m consolidated - so very good really.

Edit: Just checked it averaged 7.99m (inc +1)

Yes, the first episode over 9million, the 2nd over 8million and the others 7.5m+ with an average i think of around 8million. Most of those were from an overnight of around 6m.

I hope both do well an one doesn't crush the other, although i fear Mr Selfridge will get a big knock, escpcially in the overnights. Those adverts can be the downfall of some programmes sometimes and really hinder their future.

One thing in MS favour is that it does sell well internationally, so that could be its saving grace.

Not surprising really. Even overlooking the terrible slot it was given its an awful show. I can't for the life of me understand why Five brought it in the first place. The good news for Five though is that this latest failure may very well push ABC to picking up another short season order of Body of Proof (there's been rumblings its on the cards for a while now).

The BBC apparently have already sold The Musketeers to several countries, so both shows will be well known! Have we had a clash like this, on this scale, recently?

Indeed, although I expect he's only just stopped spinning from when Countdown was moved from Yorkshire TV to Granada. I'm not sure why Ten Cats does Countdown is basically a weekly series anyway.

I don't think the Blacklist will suffer too much, the first half of season 1 was great, a strange move to shift Intelligence after 1 ep as CBS could really do with another hit.

Well i think Ripper Street and Mr Selfridge was the last big drama clash, its almost a similar situation. RS compares well to Muskateers, in that its period, similar style of drama and been given a big push.

I can see Waterloo Road getting 4m tonight. Better slot, better lead in, worse competition, ratings higher at this time of year across the board. If it holds up over the next few weeks, the BBC may commission another 20 episodes!

My bad for some reason I misread the original post as 'on channel Five'. Not sure how I managed that.

On the subject of Body of Proof there's been on and off rumblings that ABC Studios would like to revive it because it sold so well internationally and that ABC having been playing with the idea as well mainly because its starting to look like it wasn't performing that badly for them. Who knows if it'll ever actually happen and I certainly wouldn't bet on it but I suspect interest will start picking up again now.

Yes but AFTER those rumblings, Dana Delany took to twitter to say that the show is not going to come back, and she's done with the character now.

Yes though it didn't take much. Flopzone back in business last night. Location, Location, Location did brilliantly, again proving Four's strengths in the documentary area of late. The Taste underperformed and after all that promotion. Every channel had a relatively strong to good night bar ITV. Channel 5 did great in the 10pm hour compared to their usual performance, should be definitely up on slot average.
