Very, very rare that an entertainment show nearly doubles its viewership during transmission. It suggests too that there was not a lot of on the night timeshifting, given the growth.

I think a lot of us who kept saying last year that Splash only rated well due to the weak competition it faced feel vindicated now. It just proves how important competition can be in terms of viewing figures. Splash couldn't compete against Pointless of all things last week so it really had no chance at all against a much superior product like the Voice. I imagine the low lead-in from Splash completely harmed the rest of Itv's schedule last night including Take meout.

Broadchurch isnt back until next year. Takeaway was averaging about 7m last series against The Voice. But this year it will face the Voice getting 2m more viewers than last year, so I reckon SNT's ratings will be down from 2013 and not get 7m.

Thanks ronant. From the looks of that it kinda suggests "The Voice" is too long at 90 mins running time and should go out at 7.30-8pm. Wonder if it can retain its audience next week. That's the real test for the programme.

As much as I don't like The Voice, that is a superb breakdown.

TVUK can't compete against Takeaway, it works both ways.

UKTV’s Dynamo conjures up magical ratings for BBC One: http://corporate.uktv.co.uk/news/art...tings-bbc-one/

If a rerun of Dynamo can get 3.8m at 5.45pm, imagine what new programmes featuring him could get in the future in a decent timeslot. He'll be a great addition to the BBC family.

The difference this year is that TVUK has a freerun for 6 weeks and will have built up a good audience by the time Takeaway returns. The situation will be very different to last year.

The BBC keep trying to launch new formats and that's not working, so maybe going with tried and tested older shows instead is not a bad an idea.

Good for Dynamo in that early slot. It could get c5m at a later time which would be good for BBC LE and would add some variety to the schedule.

That's to do with a dislike of Cowell but mainly a hatred of how it has treated contestants. And the smugness of Louis Walsh, and some fans, when it was on top and slagged off Strictly's ratings.

People are more complimentary about Britain's Got Talent and that's another Cowell vehicle.

Itv are going to struggle this year as they only have about 4 big shows: IAC, BGT, XF, Downton. You cant compete against BBC1 with such a small slate of 7m+ programmes.”

Samuel, Saturday Night Takeaway will be popular. They don't anything for me, but Ant and Dec are really popular and people feel comfortable watching shows they're in. What might affect The Voice is the "win the ads" segment as people like that part of the show a lot. Then will come Britains Got Talent. Again with Ant and Dec and an already well established formula that attracts people by default. Then comes The World Cup. ITV will achieve decent figures for this and possibly they could achieve 2014's biggest rating if England do well. After that is just a few weeks of summer filler where middling shows like Your Face Looks Familiar will air to around 4m viewers, which is fine for summer. Then XF will relaunch, possibly with Cowell in the judging panel, along with DA, IAC and other hit drama series' too. You severely under estimate the strength of ITV sometimes.

Once The Voice finishes for the BBC, they've got new, uncharterd shows to replace it with. Sure, they've also got The World Cup and The Commonwealth Games, but The Commonwealth Games are not the Olympics and it's an awful long way until Strictly.

The Voice began in France last night too, also with its best ever launch ratings of 10m/40.5%. The format is still a powerhouse globally.

A very impressive breakdown for the Voice. I expect the ratings to grow next week and throughout the blind auditions stage as it has done in the past. They need to get the battle rounds and live shows sorted though, as the viewers could drop sharply and it could suffer the same ratings pattern as previous years.

BBC1 are having a very good start to the year, but so are ITV. Thursdays are a very strong night for them at the moment which is a nice surprise as they've been struggling on that night in the past. Dancing on Ice isn't at the height it once was, but is still doing well against strong BBC1 programmes. ITV would often collapse against strong BBC1 competition. Mr Selfridge is back next week on Sundays, it's been promoted well and I think that will be another ratings hit for them. Paul O' Grady's animal programmes have been popular just lately, and his programme will transform Tuesday nights and give them some decent figures in that Tuesday 9pm slot for once. Midsomer Murders is performing as expected, and Saturday nights are holding up. The only weak links are Piers Morgan on Friday, the Bletchley Circle underperforming on Mondays and Tuesday nights. Overall ITV are in a strong position just now, with just a couple of weak links here and there.

Splash! didn't do too badly against the Voice last night. I wouldn't say that rating is a disaster. It's held up for now. If it can stay in the high 3s for the rest of this run, then I think ITV will be satisfied with that. I can't imagine they are too worried about Splash's performance, as they have Takeaway and Britain's Got Talent waiting in the wings for Saturday nights. And I imagine ITV don't see a long term future for Splash anyway as Tom Daley will be focusing on training for the Rio Olympics in 2016.

Isn't that exactly what happened in Series 1, the last auditions show had 10m but then lost about a million a week during the lives.

Get ready for the press release from Itv which says Splash wont return next year. Not because it got rubbish ratings. But they'll spin it by saying Tom Daley will be focussing on his training so there isnt room to bring it back in 2015/16. It's going to be all spin.

They've changed the format since series 1. Fewer live shows and also this year there'll be less scheduling chances [a week off, sunday episodes etc] which should help keep the stability in the ratings for it.

ITV were reported to be doing a pilot last year - at Granada actually - but it never happened suggesting there was little confidence in a revival.

Who Dares Wins smashed it with 6m viewers last night. The Voice has transformed BBC1's Saturday lineup. This was complete domination from the nation's favourite channel last night.

It would probably have only lasted 1 more series anyway. It was never going to be a fixture for 10 years. It wouldn't have aired in 2016 at all.

At least it got a second series, which can't be said for practically all of BBC1's Saturday shows they launched last year.

Its the same thing in every country. The blind auditions rate better than the live shows. But that's fine. Look how massively it rates for the blind auditions every where, it gives the show plenty of room to fall in the ratings during the lives and still end up rating well. It's not a BBC problem that the live shows dont rate as well as the auditions, it's a format thing.

But The X Factor used to do well in August September and The Voice did in Summer. The lowish ratings for both were more to do with quality.
