H of De Vil, can I ask how old you are? I ask, simply because all the programmes you find "fun" like BB, CBB and IAC seem to appeal far more to the younger demograph.

Only 4 live shows. Not a lot really when you consider how long "The X Factor" builds over the weeks.

27 pages in 24 hours and these were the most entertaining posts!!! 27 pages!!! Apologies if anyone actually posted anything less repetitive in the last three pages, I gave up when I got into the third hour of reading through it all.

More ratings coming right up...”

Probably more impressive than the actual overall rating. For what it's worth I'm a fan of The Voice and I didn't think it was all that great last night. New presenters were wooden and Tom Jones just needs to go.

The series hasn't really built up to a finale (unless you've noticed the small things like the telegram at the wedding from someone whose name matched the initials of the series villain) but yes nevertheless I'd certainly be surprised if it was below 9m.

He already slept with her sister, I wouldn't be surprised..

Really? I thought all the noise was about it being signed as a replacement for Dancing on Ice, which airs on Sundays.

Not really. It's found a level of people who'll come back to it series after series but it's not exactly a very high one so to say it's suddenly being considered "cool" is going just a bit far. Hardly any television is seen as "cool" (assuming you mean amongst youth) - Tumblr-popular shows like Sherlock maybe, at a push, but certainly not reality TV that has viewer stereotypes of middle-aged housewives.

Very very disappointing figure for 'Nan'. Just think, it could have been at least six million higher if it had aired over Christmas. Very disappointing indeed.

Uh oh. I'm out. After a day of relative calm (considering) the sniping has started. It's fine not to get CBB, but to attack the "credibility" of others who do, and ask for irrelevant things like the age of the posters in question, is out of order. The only pressing concern for this thread is, is CBB rating adequately? And the answer is yes. It's currently up on last year which itself did really well and was up on the year before. There's nothing to be gained from putting down people who find it entertaining, and not an insignificant number, particularly amongst the younger demographics but not exclusively so, are loving this series.

Things like Snooker is used as filler on a daytime on BBC Two, Cult audience that is not mainstream but we need that sort of thing for variety.

Yes, it is disappointing. Why it couldn't have aired on the 27th December at 10.20pm before the BBC1 Christmas repeat fest is beyond me. It might have done a lot better then. Or, why not put it on at 10pm before the News on the 27th? Baffling scheduling decision.

It took three series of X Factor to find a real star, Steve Brookstien? Shane Ward? The voice already has one from last year.

Getting a rigged No 1 at Christmas doesn't mean you will be a success.

Most new talent, do not have pre planned songs and albums already written, it can take a while to have that all put together rather than issue cover versions.

September 2004 Steve Brookstein
Two August 2005 Shayne Ward
Three August 2006 Leona Lewis
Four August 2007 Leon Jackson

Dancc, I was asking H of de vil his age because I thought it might me help me understand why his views are strong regarding certain programmes. I'm 45 so these programmes don't appeal to me, but I would understand them appealing to younger people. That's why I asked. Sometimes if you know a little bit more about people you converse with you can understand their likes and dislikes a bit better. I wasn't sniping! But you clearly get a tad sensisitive sometimes. I have no problem with CBB. I don 't watch it, but wouldn't slag off people who do.

Tv critic Boyd Hilton - the biggest Cowellite you could get - has praised the Voice:

"She was very funny and unpredictable. She came across really well," said Boyd Hilton, TV and reviews editor of Heat magazine. "She's so confident and everything she did seemed real. If they're too contrived it doesn't work, but she was believable."

If Boyd Hilton says this, it's big deal. He hates the Voice normally.

Or better still, it could have gone in the slot where the BBC got the highest ratings of the entire 2012 Christmas period instead of a Len Goodman clip show, perhaps!!

The more obvious hole was 9.20pm on Boxing Day in place of Len.

I still think they steered Nan away from the main festive period in case it knocked Mrs B.

This has to go down as one of the most stupid decisions in TV.

I just do not understand.

The problem with Reflex was that the slow motion thing doesnt appeal to the hardcore BBC1 loyalist audience of 65+ year olds. In order to get good ratings for a game show, you need to have the support of the OAPs as Who Dares Wins, In It To Win It, Family Fortunes etc do. But Reflex from its promos came across to evolutionary and modern with the high tech slow motion camera stuff, which would've put off the hardcore BBC1 game show audience who enjoy things like Pointless, Mastermind, Who dares wins etc. Next time they need to get Nick Knowles hosting a new gameshow like this, he is very popular with BBC1 gameshow audiences and would've helped bring in a slightly bigger audience to Reflex than Shane Richie. But ultimately something like this does not have mass appeal across the four generations [particularly among 50+ yos] and therefore does not get the big ratings like Pointless. In order to maximise your audiences, you've generally got to aim towards appealing at the people who watch tv the most - the oaps. Reflex just didnt appeal to that section of viewers.

NO. no, no, no., no, no, no, no, no, no. And I reiterate. NO! NO! NO!

I am a fan of BBC1 gameshows, but ONLY if they DON'T feature Nick Knowles. And, OAP's like The Cube which feature similar photography, so that is a flawed argument.
