Looks Brilliant to me but then I hated Sherlock so what do I know heh

If you'd told me at the start of the series it was going to hold up that well against a show doing 5M+ on C4 I would have taken it. Even with that small drop it's still up on last year's equivalent episode (2.24m).

The programming has been a lot stronger on BBC One, BBC Two and Channel 4 especially than it was this last time last year. But CBB on Five has been stubbornly resilient through all that has been thrown at it so far.

Ah, well at least it's up on the same rating in CBB11!

Looking at that EastEnders rating I'm wondering if it could be 8m in the tape checked ratings or if it is just 7.8m.

I was wrong. 7.8m was correct for EastEnders.

Hollyoaks is getting some good ratings at present, with 1.36m (6.4%) on C4 and 947k (4.3%) on E4.

Oddly it's getting some criticism in the DS soap forum (too many "shock" moments, apparently) but other viewers seem to be enjoying it.

It is a little bit above where Haven was in the same slot at the end of last year though that was around 1.5 million viewers and a 0.4 in the demo (and SyFy certainly haven't been in a rush to renew that yet). I guess we'll see how it holds up.”

Certainly not the best of starts for Helix given all the promotion. And feedback has been more mixed than I expected too, although its 7.8 score on IMDB seems healthy enough.

Worth noting though that SyFy held an all day marathon of the episode on the Saturday. Would that be something they normally do with a new drama? I can imagine that as well as picking up extra views, if people knew it was going to be shown so many times in advance, they may not have been in any rush to watch it on its very first showing. So I think we need to see what happens next week really.

Even at that level it's not exactly disastrous. But you get the feeling Syfy were hoping for a bigger return than that.

At least 2m people specifically switched over to C4 to watch Benefits Street?

And C5 didn't have a must watch programme in the top 25?

On a network that likes to shock in primetime also, appropriate that their soap would go down that route ?

No, seriously, well done to the producers of Hollyoaks. They have found something that works and brings in consistent ratings. The Australian soaps are now the ones in big trouble.

For January that isn't acceptable. Mondays for BBC1 is as bad as Tuesdays on ITV. Thank God for EastEnders. Without that then it would be in C5 territory. BBC2 did reasonably well, Celebrity Bake Off not as popular as the proper version.”

To be fair last night on BBC1 was pure PSB progamming - New Tricks repeats next week though is extracting the urine.

As Hassaan formerly of this parish pointed out Benefits Street is Channel 4's best performing documentary series since....My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding. TV designed to outrage people and trend on Twitter. Vile!

It's not that C5 didn't have a must watch programme in the top 25, it was more that all main channels had such a mediocre offering last night so it was lower ratings across the board. Too many middling shows all cancelling each other out. CBB actually held up well amongst the ocean of uninspired viewing choices.

Re the weekend ratings why were people saying the ratings great when both Saturday & Sunday were lower than last year?

Got to love your dedication. The first time BB doesn't appear on the Top 25. Maybe that was because it got a strong 371,000 on +1 and Mike's figures don't include +1. It clearly shows that the 9pm slot was competitive. The 2.29m it got is stil up on the same episode of last January which got 2.24m, despite bigger competition that appeals to the same demo.

Yes, it is. If they want to repeat a drama, why not Last Tango in Halifax series 1? I'm sure that would get 3.5 - 4m viewers. Why is it always blooming New Tricks. New Tricks is Prime times Escape to the Sodding Country.

Actually no, they weren't. The only ratings that last January beat this series is the launch and the first Saturday. Every episode since this series has been up on CBB11. Saturday recorded it's 2nd highest ever Ch5 Sat rating.

Either way you look at it, this series is looking to either match CBB8/CBB11 2.8m or beat it and become the highest rated series since the move.

Salv if this was Primetime C4 would you roll over and let them push your buttons ?

No ! You're better than that. So why do it on DS. Let him do his thing if he must. More importantly the show is on course to be up year-on-year despite much tougher competition from at least three major networks. Sure if we had an agenda we could sit there and nitpick and try and extract negatives, but before long we'd soon realise it was pointless in the face of such compellingly positive evidence to the contrary.

True

As for Hollyoaks, good to see it doing decently!

Maybe ratings without +1 should be called, 'Must Watch TV'.

An extra 2m winged their way to Benefits Street and Mary Berry attracted 4m so not that mediocre last night.

I thought the 'Lone Ranger' on C4 would pick up a sizeable audience but that doesn't seem to have happened.

By the way has anyone kept note of the ads during Benefit Street?

They could even repeat some classic series - Life on Mars etc

Someone in the Big Brother ratings thread said last Sat was 2.07 and Sat 12 Jan 2013 was 2.09 ?

Does anybody know how Sun, Sex and Suspicious Parents and Uncle did on BBC3?
Dancc
14-01-2014
Only 1.6m for Dave: Loan Ranger. Tanked really when you look at it in context, squandering a lead-in in excess of 5m.

Four could have got a lot more viewers with another shock doc there. And god knows they have plenty.

See is it just me or are those Corri ratings a little on the low side?

Uncle: 547k (3.0%)

A punishing rating for me as I predicted 0.6m on the RPG. 4,000 more and I'd be laughing!

Sun+Sex didn't make the multichannel top 10, so less than 497k. The BBC might be disappointed with that given the main channel only just about topped 2M at 9pm and BBC Four's Icebound was also nowhere to be seen, but it was a pretty busy viewing slot overall.

I'm guessing it's down y-o-y, but the second showing was probably dented slightly by the Bake Off. Apart from the Hayley storyline, I don't think the quality has been great and it wouldn't surprise me if Eastenders was the top rated soap near the end of the year. Judging by the Corrie spoilers for the next few months, it doesn't look like much is going on.
