The BBC always need to be on the lookout for new chat show formats. For whatever reason, there may be a time when Norton no longer wants to do it, or he could move channels. A six week trial series could be a good idea, and if rates well, would be an adequate Norton replacement.

Well, realistically the train wouldn't have left until 7.41 so that rating is more apt.

Channel 4 Sales, which measures all-day share from 06:00 to 26:00/02:00 rather than midnight, gives 25.5% for BBC One, up from 25.0% last week.

BBC Two, boosted by Bake Off, got 7.7%. Channel 5 beat Channel 4 by 5.5% to 5.4% (approx). ITV was on about 15.3%.

@mauricegran: Unbelievable but true. The consolidated viewing figure for #birdsofafeather ep 1 is...12.5 million!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So unbelievable it's not true.

Neil - I already looked in to that, I'm afraid the series average was 7.379m - so still missing the elusive 7.39

There used to be loads of different chat shows on and a lot at teh same time as well. No problem having another although what has happened to his proposed Saturday night show - another program disappeared into the BBCs black hole?

Thanks ronant. So near and yet so far for The 7.39!

Did Gran add on the Sunday repeat, I wonder?

I imagine he has totted up four consolidated ratings for the two Thursday showings and the two Sunday showings.

It had three repeats within three days. Puts it in a bit of context!

My phone wants to correct "consolidated" to "constipated" for some reason. Just thought I'd flag this in case I ever fail to spot it.

It used to always change it to "consummated" but it seems to have gone off that idea now...

Well "The Taste" was tasteless and really indicates what has happened to Nigella Lawson over the last few years by the men who have taken her over and marketed her, including her Saatchi husband. Her weight loss seems to be part of that general "consumption" of her.

Im not surprised "The Taste" flopped.

Its so sad because in the early days she was a natural. Now she is a dressed up commodity...and even the Law seems to do what it wants with her. That show trial was a defamation of her as a character more than anything else.

I hope she takes time out to find herself again.

That a great rating for Death In Paradise, I must watch it on Iplayer. As I predicted yesterday the premiere last year was sure to be close to this years, simpky because there has been quite a lot of promotion for it, through trailers, newspapers etc. and I think viewers were intersted in the new lead actor. It will ineviatbvly drop next week but not by much.

Really glad Paul O' Grady did fairly good, hopefully it increases next week. Its these sort of programmes which should be on TV more to highlight the danger to wildlife from humans around the world. Good cause.

Wow, strong night for Ch5 with 2.5m for CBB and 1.9m for the Whitney Houston documentary. I'm sure they want to do more of those programmes. But not all would rate as highly as MJ and WH. Maybe a Heath Ledger one would be done?

Ooh, The Taste So can we say, for Channel 4 for 2014 so far...

I do wonder if O'Grady's political outburst on The One Show yesterday may have prevented him getting even more viewers.

If they put it out on a Tuesday night it will probably have to be renamed The 2.59pm after the first episode.

At least they're trying out new stuff. I imagine many on here will compare it to Jeremy Kyle?

Just noticed on ITV press thaqt Splash has been moved foward to 6.45pm on the 25th January, obviously trying to get a head start on The Voice. Whether it will do any good or not I don't know.

I suspect he wanted each episode, but either way, totting up all 4 showings still only comes to 11.976m

I suppose they have to try something but it does look like rearranging the deckchairs on the sinking ship.

Tbh I don't think its a bad thing if Splash is axed, but it just means back to drawing board for new ideas. This is why past gameshows are being revived, nobody can think of anything.

If anything I would have thought it would have helped get more viewers - he was a trending topic on twitter so was getting plenty of attention.

And it's not like he was wrong either...
