I must have missed the secretary introduction - was it at the beginning?

The point was that the AGRA memory stick was hidden in a Thatcher bust and that assassin chap was trying to locate it.
I know, but what happened after that? I understood that plot but then it just became nonsense.

What happened to telling a good story?
That's for hacks - Gatiss and The Moff are artists. We can't expect to understand their genius, merely be grateful for living alongside such giants.

More Toby Jones next week. Is he ever off our screens now?
Always dependable, though. Maybe he can redeem the mess this show has become.

I usually enjoy Sherlock as a more casual viewer (if there is such a thing of this show) but this one,I dunno, perhaps I need to watch again but it seemed to me, as someone else said a 'hot mess'. Possibly due to too much Mary, never a character I liked too much of.

I'll watch again and see if I like it more.

Some of you are such miseries, that was much better than the christmas episode maybe some of you need to watch the thing instead of rushing to type your opinion of every 10 minutes?

Yes, it was a "top level" meeting and Mycroft was very dismissive of her - which was the whole point really. She was a "nobody".

I thoroughly enjoyed tonight's episode to the point that I only realised when it had finished that I had physically moved forward to the edge of my sofa.

As much as I liked Mary I'm glad she's gone because hopefully we'll get back to the banter between Sherlock and Watson.

Used a few bits from "The Sign of Four".

I'm really fed up with all this.

I LOVED the first two series. I tried really hard to love the third one, and this one I just lost interest.

I expect I'll keep watching though. In the vain hope that it picks up or something.
Like you, I thought the first two series were very good. Particularly the first series. When they failed to explain how he survived his fall, it went downhill. The third series was pretty poor and the one off special last year was utterly dire.

I didn't watch it tonight. I decided I wasn't going to give it the viewing figures. I realise that me not watching isn't going to make a great difference, but, as someone posted earlier, whatever happened to good storytelling?

The Christie Witness for the Prosecution last week was much the same.

It seems to be that certain programmes are made where the viewer is the last thing on their mind!.

In my view of course.

Absolutely awful. At the risk of sounding like Comic Book Guy, possibly the worst episode yet. A Sherlock Holmes story without a mystery is not a Sherlock Holmes story.

Also, season 3 began with Watson pissed off at Sherlock. This is deja vu. But don't blame Moffat: Gatniss wrote this one.

I missed it - was recording it and dipping in now and then inbetween watching Morecambe and Wise, too.

Did Mary really die? If so, how poignant, seeing that Amanda Abbington and Martin Freeman recently split up.

Really disappointed. It just felt like another episode of The Mary Show. Good characters like Lestrade, Mycroft and Molly were barely in it while we had another tour of Mary's murky past. I want to see Sherlock and John solving crimes, is that too much to ask? Feels like a far cry from the excellence of the first two series. What a let down.

It seems that most people on here were prejudging it before it even started. Why bother continuing watching it if you are not enjoying it. Totally daft.

Here's a suggestion. Don't watch it next week just to come on here to post how awful and up its own arse it is. We don't want to hear it anymore. It's beyond boring now hearing the same people continually saying the same clichéd things every week.

I seriously considered writing out an entire thread prior to broadcast in each of your voices so confident was I that I could capture exactly the moans and groans and the nonsense that would follow. Depressingly it's all pretty much as I predicted. Kinda have to wonder why you even bother to watch the programme any more given that your 'review' is already written long before the opening credits see the light of day.

After a mediocre series three and the special that won't be mentioned, we at least appear to be back at series two standards with tonight's episode - certainly more Holmesian in-jokes with the Norbury puns, Agra from Sign of Four and the red herring (or should that be black pearl!) from the Six Napoleons. The script certainly seemed much tauter than in recent years, and while it did lose momentum in the final half-hour, thoroughly enjoyed that, and the faith has been restored for next week.

Tough.

I go into each episode in good faith, but if it's crap like tonight's was I'll say so.

Not nearly as bad as 'The Abominable Bride' IMO, but that would be difficult. As someone said earlier in the thread, they seem to mistake being convoluted with being intelligent. Sherlock used to be fun to watch, but it seems to be turning into sub-Bondian, ponderous nonsense. It can be so much better.

I enjoyed the Christmas episode . I did until the modern day stuff anyway. I actually liked the 3rd series as well, but I am tiring of the convoluted storytelling. I wish Sherlock could just solve a case, I was enjoying this very much until it became about Mary. I'm just thrilled she is no longer going to be the main focus.

I wasn't referring to you. I was referring to the same group of people who just repeat the same clichéd nonsense on here week after week.

What's predictable is those who would like to silence critical opinion. Nobody ever complains about page after page of unqualified praise but it seems pavlovian with some to moan about others saying they didn't like it.

Quite apart from anything else the "if you don't like it why watch it?" DS refrain is older than God and yet it gets trotted out like some Eureka! moment, as if it's never been uttered before.

People live in hope...knowing how good it once was, which seems a long time ago now...but hope is what makes us watch it...but if it's crap then we will say it's crap.
