Really? Seemed to me like she has been driving the plots forward for the last 3 episodes. We really don't need another old boys detective story where the females are relegated to tea making and draping themselves over desks.

Oh Granny! Just a bit hypocritical given all your many anti-Moffat posts on the Doctor Who forum.
I'm really bemused how you can hate what Moffat's done to Who but love what he's done with Sherlock! I loathed Series 3 of Sherlock because it had that sickly sentimental air that Moffat can get into sometimes (The unspeakable Narnia episode, for example). This series seems back to the action and the mystery, and the humour, so that's fine by me. If I think it gets worse next week, I'll let you know.

It shouldn't be cancelled, it just shouldn't be renewed for another series. Programmes don't have to go on forever, and I'd like the memory and legacy of this series to be mostly good.
Like The Simpsons, started great and then declined. Don't let Sherlock keep declining. Keep it as something that was great. |

Spoiler
I wondered if he'd been mentioned before and I missed it. It seems not? |

I loved that Sherlock told the story about the merchant meeting Death in Baghdad. Poirot told the same story in Appointment with death, also starring Mark Gatiss.
![]() Poirot was more compelling in his storytelling, though

Why is it hypocritical? I said I liked the DW Christmas special. I've always said when I liked Moffat's stuff, and when I disliked it as well.

So Sherlock pointlessly and dangerously tells Mary and john to meet up with him in the place where he's going to have his showdown with the baddie, this shockingly doesn't go well and results in Mary getting killed, you know the person that Sherlock vowed (as they kept pointing out) to protect........ Isn't Sherlock meant to be smart.

Unfortunately those particular plots haven't been particularly popular with a lot of people. ![]() ![]() I thought series 3 was okay. It had its moments. But it was since Mary got involved that I believe that the show suffered a drop in quality. Yes, right now I think we do need another old boys detective mystery. Good idea, thanks for that. That's probably exactly what we do need. John's been married, been there, done that, got the tee-shirt, now going back to some well told Sherlock Holmes mystery stories where Sherlock and Watson aren't bogged down with marriage and babies will probably be a refreshing change and mark a return to form. I'm not sure what you're talking about females being relegated to tea-making. Apart from Mrs Hudson who is a fantastic character in her own right, and whose job it is to be the housekeeper, there have been some good female characters in this show. A Study in Pink is a good example which springs to mind. And this is when the show was at the top of its game. |

Maybe he thought she needed a comeuppance for nearly killing him?

To be fair, the series has for many people gone off the boil. And she is the most obvious person to blame, the stories driven by her haven't been too well liked. So it's not really a positive thing to have her so central to the plot. Since she came into it, the episodes have gotten messier, that could be a total coincidence but there was a definite change when she was introduced. When people say she is standing in the way of the plots, I think they just mean she is standing in the way of the Conan Doyle stories, they just want Sherlock to solve a case, like he did in the first 2 series, not go off and be James Bond with some ex spy.

Have all the moaners gone yet? I try to avoid the first few pages of "reviews" on here, as people either don't understand what's going on (when it's perfectly clear) or think it's "crap".
Boring beyond belief to have to wade through - do they know how dim they sound I wonder? Perhaps they don't care. To then insult the intelligence of said posters is just grasping at straws in trying to form an argument for you having a go at them. Personally, I watched it, I was posting at the time, managed to follow it fine. Didn't really enjoy it. Loved the first 2 series, most of the episodes after that in my personal view haven't ticked the boxes for me, a little too self-indulgent at times and that doesn't go down well with me. Fantastic that you enjoyed it, just don't put people down and look down your nose at folks who didn't, and instantly come to the conclusion of "Oh they must not have understood it.. Oh how dim they sound with the displeasure they are airing" |

It is hypocritical to criticise the so called "moaners" when you have made such posts yourself, that's all.
I have often moaned about such moaners on the DW forum, actually. My posts are well thought out critiques making pertinent points and posted after much deliberation. I'm surprised you don't realise that. ![]()

I had not heard of it before Poirot, but it stuck with me. It is so chillingly accurate.
If one believes that, of course. Which I do ![]() And no one can escape death ultimately, of course. |

Moriaty was the best. They implied he's be in this episode - they lied.
Please let me know when he's back. I'll only watch then. |

Said so myself !!! After all he had the posse waiting to walk in anyway with Mycroft etc.... why on earth BRING the two people he desperately wants to keep safe straight into the middle of a dangerous situation, and having done so, he then continues to bait the old biddy verbally until the gun appears. Why didn't the posse just rush in and surround her with NO conversation taking place, and just take her in for questioning. Would have saved so much drama and death ! And finally.... .Mr. Super Sleuth who misses nothing ... and Miss top notch super dooper secret agent never had a thought between them to wear a bullet proof vest !!! |

Your entitled to your opinion of which you said you enjoyed it, why aren't the people who don't like it not allowed to air theirs?

I just find it tedious to have to trawl through pages of people who are moaning because they don't get what's happening because they post before the bit of plot or dialogue which would explain it hasn't happened yet. I try to skip those pages. Not just for this - it happens with virtually everything on here. |

I hadn't even clocked that Mary had any kind of back story before this episode and that she was only there to disturb the dynamic between Holmes and Watson ... and many of the viewers judging by tonight's post.
![]() TBH I still haven't worked out how AMMO leads to the elderly secretary? Something about being the Latin for love? Who's love? |

Ah, I get you now. I hope my moans are not knee jerk, as seems to be the case with those who post while the episode is still showing, and rarely say more than "It's crap", or "What's happening now, I don't get it" etc.
I have often moaned about such moaners on the DW forum, actually. My posts are well thought out critiques making pertinent points and posted after much deliberation. I'm surprised you don't realise that. ![]() ![]() If this is the case then why aren't those people who praise an episode while it is actually being broadcast criticised as well? Not that I'm saying that they should, just that shouldn't people be treated equally whether they like something or not? |
