Regarding who's going to die - I'm starting to think it might be me, of suspense!
I feel like the little alien guy on the Argos advert... "Come on..... hurry up...."

In the DS teasers it says "At least one significant character dies"
At least one...I can not see them killing off two established people so maybe this means mary and her child? Horrible but ....

Do we know that tonight's episode is set immediately after last week's? The way they have compressed time so far, could they move on to after the Watson's child has been born, and then kill Mary, leaving the child?

I don't know if they would do that because then Watson would be left raising the child on his own and that would totally ruin the series and stop him getting into all sorts of adventures with Sherlock.I say the only way that John could have a child would be if Mary lives, so she can look after it when he is off with Sherlock. But as it looks like Mary might be on her way out, I'd say they will lose the baby too.

I'm sure Moffat could make something out of it going by the last two episodes e.g. Sherlock and Watson spend an hilarious 90 minutes changing the baby's nappy before deducing that a cat stole one of the baby's rusks.

Sherlock, John and Lestrade solving crime with a mini Watson. A modern day 3 men and a baby!

Don't worry people. Because what you say would make it technically possible to continue (sort of) with Sherlock and Watson.

I don't think that they'd do that to us though. I hope not anyway. You've even got me worried.

It's today now. It's almost on us.
Who knows for certain what could happen? They could quite resuscitate someone who technically died and we wouldn't have been lied to concerning the spoilers!

I SORT of understand why they brought Mary in - to stay in line with the books (ish), it made sense to marry John off at this point.

What I DON'T find so palatable is the idea of a domesticated Watson with lots of mini-Watsons screaming, bawling and running around at some point in every episode from now on. Watson didn't have children in the books, did he? So why hoist all that on him now?

I seriously doubt that Mary will die, now that she's sprogged-up. So I've been running different possible scenarios through my mind and here's what I've come up with (all complete speculation, of course!):
a) It was a phantom pregnancy engineered by CAM (who it turns out is Mary's father), intended to distract Sherlock from Mary's true purpose (using John as a beard to get into Sherlock's inner circle)...
b) It's a real pregnancy but John isn't the father. If CAM isn't Mary's father, maybe he's her lover...
c) It's a real pregnancy and the baby is John's but Mary, complicit with CAM (who I still think is either her father or lover - most likely her father, as the telegram mentioned her 'family' and he called her 'poppet'), is unmasked and forced to flee, therefore taking the baby away with her.

Whatever, the one scenario I DON'T want is Mary hanging around for Series 4! Let's get the focus back on the boys!

Mark Gatiss tweeted a few minutes ago to make sure everyone watches until the end of the credits, in case anyone on here doesn't have twitter

If it's on the basis that Mary is really a baddie and was trying to trick Sherlock by pretending to be pregnant, and Sherlock is playing along to make her think he has been tricked, or for any other reason, it will be rough on Watson, leading him on.

Oh yes, it will be hard for Watson.

Some of the initial blogs (since removed) such as the one on Cumberbatchweb, do indicate that Molly will have a brief but salient role in the drama. As she is not a canonical character she does seem vulnerable to the chop. You would not rule out some sacrificial Gotterdamerung on her part.

Amen to that - that would spoil the show to a considerable extent.

On a very different point - am I the only who reads "poppet" as puppet, i.e. I'm holding your strings and there's nothing you can do about it?

My head has gone into complete speculation overdrive. They may as well all fly off to New Mexico at this stage, glass of champagne in hand, laughing frantically at us poor mortals for trying to figure it all out

She probably has twitter on her phone so she can just tweet whenever. I don't have twitter but a load of my friends are addicted to it and that's what they do. Any time something happens, the phone is out and they are tweeting. Don't really get it tbh.

We know that Magnusson is a professional blackmailer.

A possible explanation for what Mycroft says to Sherlock in the trailer is that Magnussen is blackmailing Mycroft as well as blackmailing Mary (forcibly making them allies).

Come to think of it they could do a flashforward to a very short scene set 40 years later showing Sherlock's grave. Technically it would mean he had died,...but not really.
