The BBC has been taken over by Sherlock for an announcement at 2.21pm ( yes ).

Seems a bit of a fuss to announce a 2015 Special.

I must be getting old and grumpy, because I'm finding the Twitter stuff and people getting into a frenzy over it, a bit annoying

Will Benedict be commentating on the Murray match?

I only started watching Sherlock after the third series finished (I found the episodes on Netflix and thought I would give them a go based on several recommendations.). I am now very addicted (within 2 minutes of Benedict coming on screen). I really don't know why I didn't give them a go before (I guess in my mind, I thought Sherlock Holmes would be boring) and have a very large crush on Benedict Cumberbatch. I am so excited for news on possible new episodes. I would much prefer a series, but will take a Christmas special to keep me going til they decide to make a new series.

Special in 2015 (xmas being the safe betting) and series 4 filming sometime next year if we're lucky - I guess for early 2016 broadcast if we're really lucky. Not sure it really warranted a special announcement other than to avoid it being announced in next weekends papers

On the upside it is consistent with Doctor Who filming getting two seasons in the can without clashing or losing Moffat

Of course they mean not knowing the exact day but who cares, we know we'll have a nice gift at the end of the year.

If series 4 is expected at Christmas, maybe the 1895 special will be shown earlier - Summer, or Autumn, maybe.

Managed to just notice this post and be very disappointed that if it isn't filming into January it would be at least another year, before realising that we are already in 2015.

Watched the second half of The Empty Hearse on Monday on BBC1, was great to watch it again, I forgot just how funny it is and how brilliant some of the effects are.
