Funny thing is, the premise of this episode was the busts. I remember a really good Jeremy Brett episode based on it, but it was the whole story. They just used it as a spring board for more Mary here. I'm enjoying it so far and am following it fine, but i'm not thrilled it's become about her again, she just needs to go away.
I'm finding it easy to follow.

I just feel cheesed off that anything potentially interesting was just 'dealt' with in the shortest possible time IN ORDER to, as you say, concentrate on Mary and her past, which we know about already and the violent, spy, action stuff isn't what I love about Sherlock.

Moffat incapable of not focusing on the "companion". Where have we seen that before?!?!

He needs to hand both these shows off to someone else, PDQ.
TBH he didn't write this eppy!

This is much easier to follow than the last special, but all very convoluted.

That's the problem, though. We shouldn't have to watch several times to understand what's going on or what's being said. Gatiss and Moffat really are self-indulgent t**ts, who do stuff for their own enjoyment.... (IMO) >:(
Couldn't agree more!

I wouldn't mind so much if they cocked up and ruined their own ideas, but they haven't the wit or intelligence to create their own shows so they ruin existing ones.

I'm totally, hopelessly lost with it all.

I can tell you what's happened, but not why.

It just stinks of Moffat squealing about how clever he is.

How can Sherlock forget or forgive that Mary shot him in cold blood.? He almost died, ffs!
I have ever hated two fictional characters, who were supposed to be protagonists, and they are both named Mary.

I just find it bloody hard to care at all.
The problem is that it will rate well (what's the competition), and some people, like me, watch it, hoping it will improve, so the BBC will give Moffatt and Gatiss more stuff to do. It will be interesting to see how the next 2 eps rate. It's up against new Endeavour on ITV.

I remember when Sherlock would just solve a case with John.

Now it's all about multiple strands and confusing everyone.

Firstly, yes. Her backstory is ridiculous, unbelievable and ultimately drags down every episode focussed on her.

Secondly, who is the other Mary? I'm curious.

I'm going to start writing Miss Marple episodes where she gets married and all the episodes are about her husband's life as a welder.

Self-referential mythologising as opposed to just telling a good mystery story, like they used to.

Now that could be interesting: the life of a welder in St. Mary Mead.... Go on, do it

Plus you'll get the usual Digital Spy "reviewer" raving about how good it was!

Lost all interest in Who because the plots just became convoluted for the sake of it. It doesn't make for clever TV.

Don't get me wrong, Moffat is a brilliant storyteller (Press Gang anyone?), but he sure likes to reinvent the wheel.
