One of the daftest posts I've ever read. You talk about Hopkins as if she's an articulate and infinitely persuasive politician. She's a blithering idiot with a talent for silly, bigoted and offensive remarks about people she knows nothing about. If she speaks for a minority then I hope to God they remain a minority.
Sooner or later, probably when she has to take things further in order to elicit a response, she'll do a Carol Thatcher, say the wrong thing, and she'll disappear beneath the stone from whence she came.

12% of the population live in council properties. They are far from all poor; there is no process by which council tenants on good incomes are oliged to move. My point was that you cannot normally identify someone's social class by their name, common though it is for middle class people to chuckle to themselves about the 'chav names' they have heard of, probably online. What class are all those Harry's or Olivias? Any class at all.

It really isn't nice to call other people 'chavs'. I have sometimes said this on the GD forum and people bark back that they suppose I approve of people being stabbed and spat at in the street. No I don't. The word they are looking for is CRIMINALS. 'Chav' is a demeaning word used to describe those considered less educated and classy than the speaker. In the case of 'Jayden' and 'Kayden', they may not be common among the ISA owning classes, but they in no way reflect badly on the kindness, honesty and parental skills of those who chose the names.

I am FAR from being a Katie Hopkins fan, but I thought she was hysterical last night. She is extreme in the extreme and was being more than deliberately provocative. I also think for the first time ever she was going way OTT to get a laugh. It certainly worked for me.

The general idea of a "chav" is someone who goes around demonstrating anti-social behaviour. I'm sure some employed people do that. Someone having a job doesn't automatically make them better people than someone who happens to be jobless, living on a council estate and actually wants to get out and change things.

It's just another easy word to stereotype, sadly. Oh, there are definitely people who fit that mould, but they don't speak for all. I can vouch for that from experience.

As for education, I came from a council estate and I performed very well in my education, better than some of those who'd probably look down on me actually.

I deleted it cos I rethought what I said. I don't think of a chav that way really, well those people are what I'd call a chav but it's more extensive than that (where I live). I moved to quite an impoverished city a few years ago and it's difficult to go a day without seeing a man drinking on a residential road, or a few young children out alone. Nothing to do with council housing and many of them privately rent.

Quite honestly you sound nothing like the people I am describing but it's undeniable that they exist.

Fair enough. Oh, I definitely agree that they exist, I was just pointing out that they don't represent everyone from a similar background, but we seem to be pretty much on a similar page on that after all.
