I see today's Google doodle commemorates Simone de Beauvoir's 106th birthday. It feels strange to think there was only one day's difference in age between her and William Hartnell. Which of them, I wonder, contributed most to human happiness?

I can only speak for my own happiness, but Hartnell obviously. It's funny that he is often criticised for his views and his manner yet at the same time he brought so much happiness to millions of people. My life has been so much better for having him in it.
