Sim only contract
FCUK
08-01-2014
Hey

I am on sim only contract and i started it in Aug 13 and its for 12 months. So Aug this year it will expire right? Or will it carry on for another 12 months? I have discounts on my plan as i had issues with signal so will these carry on as usual as these have no end date and its states it as on-going.

I dont want to change plan, want to stick to this on. Come Aug what do i do?

My first contract ergo the questions.

Come August the minimum term will expire and it will revert to 30 days' notice.

Dunno about your discounts, depends on the network.

I don't follow??? What do you mean? Revert to 30 rolling contract? Dont want that lol. Would i have to call them?

Most contracts by default revert to 30 days notice after the minimum term has run out.

If you want to re-commit to another 12 months you can phone them and recontract.

Which network are you on?
What plan are you on?
How much are you paying/getting discounted?

it will carry on as normal just if you want to leave you only have to give 30 days notice and no fees

T-Mobile. Sim only plan that was £8 per month but loyalty discount brought it down to 6.50. However with the issues I had with the signal they have been applying credit to my account and i have £5 discount so essentially I am paying £1.50 per month however as my account is in credit i am not physically playing a dime. Altogether my account is in credit near the £39 mark. And at £1.50 a month and with account in credit nearly £39 I am not gonna pay a dime.

So just wondering if this will carry on when the plan finishes Aug...will contract start again with all these discounts? And on my account the £5 discount shows as ongoing.

I would like to stick with this exact plan/contract.

Contracts are for a minimum term. Once that term is over you become an out-of-contract subscriber and can leave at any time by giving the prescribed notice (usually 30 days).

After the minimum term they can alter the price to pretty much anything they want, as you will have the option to leave before the any such price change comes into effect.

You need to speak to T-Mobile to confirm but I suspect the discount for the coverage issues will only be for the duration of the minimum term.

So if i want to stay in this exact plan/contract would i have to call them just before the contract finishes? This is my first contract was a payg customer.

As the £5 and loyalty discounts states on my account as on going i would i have assumed it would carry on until i leave the plan myself. And the in credit i have on my account that's surely gotta stay. I did call T-Mobile and was told everything will stay the same however I am ocd so i have to ask others for their views and facts.

T-Mobile said it will stay same and people here say after the contract reaches the end of the year from which it started it reverts to something else...??? Confused!

The contract stays the same, but the minimum term has been completed. Right now if you wanted to leave, you would have to pay out the remaining months. Once you have done the minimum term you just give 30 days notice and away you migrate. If you don't want to change, you don't have to do anything!

You might be able to get more discounts by signing a new 12 month contract because then they know they're keeping you for that time.

T-Mobile are a bit different to other operators. At the end of the 12 months contract you usually lose any loyalty discount. The account credit will still be there but you may find yourself paying standard price rather than £1.50pm.

The best thing to do is ring up T-Mobile and get them to confirm what happens after the 12 months to you over the phone and in writing.

After the 12 months the contract becomes one month rolling. The only thing you need to check here is the price. T-Mobile is the only network that applies discounts which are automatically removed after the minimum term.

I contacted them and the gentleman was really helpful. Cause of the issues i had, had been ongoing from May 13 right to Dec 13 they put my account in credit plus a £5 discount was added so as it stands now my account is roughly £39 in credit and a £5 discount. The*guy told me that everything will carry on as normal after Aug and as the £5 discount was ongoing that it would continue to apply. And then he said that i personally wouldn't have to actually pay anything for at least 18 months as my account was on credit £39 and I had the £5 discount which states as on going.

The plan originally was £8 however when they called my to see if I would change to contract that applied a loyalty discount which brought the plan to £6.50. So the plan started off at £6.50. It is now £1.50 with the fiver discount added. The guy did say I wouldn't need to actually pay anything for sometime which means to me that the £5 discount would still be there and that I would stay on this plan which is a sim only 12.

I ask here also as I am an ocd nut lol and need to get extra reassurance and views. Right now it seems conflicting.

If I wanna commit again to another 12months...do I contact them? Would it be a new plan/contract or would it count as a renewal of my plan? Sorry for the questions, so new to contract, was a payg customer for years before switching.

Personally if the guy said the discount would continue i wouldn't phone them until the £5 discount disappeared.

So I do nothing then? When Aug comes just continue as I am? Not call or anything. If I call them July regarding the near end of my plan I may lose my £5 discount plus the loyalty discount from start? I assumed that they would contact me and I would carry on as normal on another 12 month plan. It seems that if i want to stick on same plan/contract as i am I basically do nothing and carry as as I am.

In that case the £5 discount will stay there as that was applied separately.

The £1.50 loyalty discount may be removed though.

When he was doing his calculations...he included the £1.50 loyalty discount as well as the fiver for all the issues. Once my account is cleared of all the credit i had applied he mentioned that he would love to pay £1.50 for my plan. To me it sounds like he included the loyalty which was applied at the very start of my plan and the fiver for the issues I had. The in credit I have will stay there no matter what as that was a reimbursement for the months i was having issues with signal.

No, you'd just continue on the exact same plan but have the flexibility to cancel whenever you want.

Fair enough then. But I wouldn't be surprised if your bill starts being £1.50pm more than it should be in August.

Well i will challenge them about it all. Going by what the guy said...it seems the fiver will still count as will the loyalty discount that was applied at the start of the plan..I think this was done cause i was with them for 8yrs.

Even if it went back to the original price at £8 minus everything it is still cheaper then payg when I was topping up £10+ a month.

So in your view i should do nothing? Not ask to commit to another 12month sim only? (Thanks for the info provided so far) Guess the only difference between a 12month contract and month to month is that on month to month as you said you can cancel it all and leave without charge but on an actual 12month contract you have to pay to get out. Once minimum term has past all will stay same and they will continue to collect payment as usual?

I will be surprised if in August you come back on here and say you got your discount carried on...it will go back to £8
loyalty means nothing now the company's can just let you go because they know there is always someone that will take your place
I am on the same tariff has you and I pay nothing for 12mts but come November it will go back to £8
The only people that may get a bit of loyalty are the one paying £40/70 a month.

Well we will see. I am going to call again to confirm this once again. If they say it will continue come Aug if discounts are not applied then I will complain as I was told by a few people it would. Let's see what happens from this call, will report back.

Called. Right I was told this....if I want to stay on this same plan/contract I should call them in July and get it renewed and in most cases the discounts I have received....the £1.50 at the very start loyalty discount...and the fiver added in for trouble of signal would most likely be added again although they cannot guarantee but it's noted on my account that these discounts have no end date which they said means this will carry on going til I leave them or change contract altogether. Also they said if they cannot be added, I would receive different discounts so either way I won't pay the £8, would be cheaper somehow. I don't mind paying the highest rate at £8 cause before switching to contract I was payg and topping up around four times a month at £5. So even at its highest I am paying cheaper.

Just that I wanna know exactly where my account stands. ATM it is in credit £8.52 as it shows on my app, I do have that £30 credit too but that won't show til my next bill as I was told...is this right?

Also your on same sim only 12month plan? How have you got away paying nil for awhile?
