I didn't realize, The Beast Below was a Moffat episode yeah I'm not sure where I'd insert it in the list, it has the same problem all the future episodes tend to have, struggling to show the future culture, since it wasn't on my Moffat-dar I'd stick it near the bottom with bells

The Lodger. Loved it.

This is what I really wanted for Matt's Doctor - stories that were a bit more linear in their narrative (there's a bit of timey-whimeyness at the end but nothing too awful) and NO TARDIS!

It was just Matt, being charming and funny and helping ordinary people. The supporting cast were of course superb!

The Lodger was a Gareth Roberts episode!

It's always interesting to see a snap shot in time of how episodes were viewed, and how views may change as times passes, for example recent poll for the favourite xmas episode saw A Christmas Carol voted favourite, even though it didn't fare so well in the poll at the time.

Looks as if Christmas audiences are tough in general.

To be honest Doctor/Widow/Wardrobe is the only one I've really disliked!

Regarding Silence in the Library/Forest of the Dead - it actually seems quite strange now to think that River met Donna. Even more so that she met Doctor 10 and Donna the day she died! It does make that moment in Silence in the Library more poignant when she realises who Donna is and says how sorry she is. Also, there really is nothing to suggest that Doctor 12 can't meet River. I doubt he will but . . he could!

lol - yes you're right Donna and River seem like two totally different eras and weird to think back now they met indeed. In my view only, this was Rivers best episode because it made me want to know who the hell this woman was and why she knew the Doctor - proper timey wimey story line. I liked Donna - but I think I'm on the minority on that one ....

According to the Radio Times poll, she's the third most popular companion of all time after Rose and SJS! River's 4th!!!!

I don't think that's true, I think a lot of people liked her. She's my favourite post 2005 companion by a long way.

Good, its easy to dismiss her because of that annoying cockney thing she did. She was just "very humane", I loved that.

Oh, I forgot Beast Below, it would be 12th (GOOD) - between Girl in the Fireplace and The Doctor, the Window and the Wardrobe.

I know I give Moffat a hard time on here but it is nice to be able to say something nice as well. I still think his best episodes were during the RTD Era so I would say that The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances and Blink are the two best stories he's ever written for the show followed very closely by The Girl In The Fireplace. Though I love Series 4, wasn't quite so keen on the Library 2-Parter though it wasn't awful by any means.

During his own time as showrunnner, The Eleventh Hour is still far and away the best of the bunch. Let's Kill Hitler, Asylum Of The Daleks and The Bells Of st John I also love.

That clearly says to me that I enjoy the opening episodes of most Series but it goes downhill from there.

Oh, and I always liked A Christmas Carol, which has been one of the best of all the Xmas Specials IMO.
